https://cdn-af.feednews.com/news/detail/eda9202f692650fd51fd02e26f7f5992Education in Nigeria is in various stages and levels starting with the primary school. Although many kids do attend the nursery school but it's mostly for those whose parents can afford it.

1. The primary school education last for six years ranging from the primary one to six.children start attending primary school (elementary schools ) when they are six years old and are most likely to graduate when they are twelve years old.

The primary school education is free and compulsory for all and it is under universal basic education (UBE). Pupils put on uniform throughout the six years and every school have their own uniform that differentiate them from the others in town.

Teachers at the primary school are mandated to have the required qualifications which is the national certificate in education (NCE) given by colleges of education

2.secondary education, successful pupils at the primary schools who passed the entrance examination will then proceed to the next stage which is the secondary school at the age of twelve years.

The secondary school education takes up to six years to complete, and the language of instruction is English also students at the secondary school wear uniform with most of the secondary school mixed and others private.

The first phase of secondary school last for three years, Jss1-3. After which students sit for Junior secondary school examination (JSSE) with the successful ones awarded the junior secondary school certificate (JSSC).

Upon the completion of the jss, the successful ones proceeds to the second phase which is the senior secondary school (SSS) which also last for the duration of three years.

At the end of this period students obtain the senior secondary school certificate (SSSC) and after they must have passed the examination which is the senior secondary school examination.

However students aspiring to further their education must obtain at least five credit pass in not more than two sitting, and must also obtain the joint admission and matriculation board form and must also score the required mark for tertiary education.

3.Tertiary education is the last stage of formal education, it's takes a minimum of four years to complete, completing the 6-3-3-4 educational system.

However professional courses like medicine and law takes longer.

Institutions of higher education are :

1. The university

2. The polytechnic

3. The colleges of education

Stages of the university include

First degree programme

Master's degree programme

Doctorate degree programme

Stages of the polytechnic also includes

Ordinary national diploma (OND)

higher national diploma (HND)

Lastly, the colleges of education award Nigerian
