It is very wrong of the father to slap the child for his lack of performance. Now, for the parents and those of you here castigating the boy for his poor performance, it is high time you all realized that not everyone possess the cognitive strength to go to school. Education is good no doubt but it shouldn't form the basis for ones success in life as most of you are making it seem. Fact is, you can force a horse to the river but you can't force it to drink water. Many parents fail in their part to discover a child's interest in life and what a child does very well and achieves success with ease but just wants to force education on the child just to conform to societal norms and general beliefs. And this doesn't always play out well as expected in the end like this guys case. Try to watch them during their formative years to discover their academic strength and interest in life quite early so you can guide them through it accordingly. In this case, the boys interest is music. And the parents could have done well by guiding him through the best music school to help shape his music carrier and he would have come out top in his class and ended up as a professional musician. And we all know how music is fast selling in our world today. Opportunities abound therein. Now, Before you start telling me how Education is the key and a leverage to getting good jobs" baldadash, mind you, even if you graduate and come out with a first class, you can only work/slave with your cert within a stipulated period of time> known as the active service years a person is required to work, then you retire. What will you retire to? God help you if you finished late from school and even not able to get a good and secured job immediately. So whats all this brouhaha about forcing a child to school whether they are good to go or not? Pointless cos it will be time and money gone down the drain. It makes a lot of sense to think outside the box ( aside certificate) to chose/build a more sustainable career for when you retire. God helping you through it. All I'm saying in lay mans' term is, not everybody has the "head for school". Help your "special" wards to discover their interest and strength in life and stop forcing education on them. Let them aquire the basic knowledge ( read and write) during the formative years then guide and support them through their interest in life afterwards.stop wasting time and money. After all said and done, an individual can decide to go back to school, not out of compulsion but of their own volition to suit their needs and not to conform to social norms. so, at this stage, it is with an understanding to their own interest in life and not to answer a " glorified graduate" with empty skulls like we have in our midst these days. Hope you know how much he paid . It is 21000 Zimbabwean Dollar. If it were you how will you feel as a father? Nigerians are quick to judge people. The father had to beat the distraction out of the child. Did you see Yul Edochie's post on how he wanted to stop school at JSS2 and open an electrical workshop? His father beat that distraction off of him. So the father is fully justified for beating the child. Remember spare the rod and spoil the child. And here you are busy talking of encouragement. |

Zeeknow3245: And after his university education, he ended as an actor? Is that in line with what he studied? Which goes to show he still went back to doing what he has interest in. And like I said, they can later in life decide to go back to school but this time with a knowing of what they intend to achieve from it. Anyways, yuls father could have seen that he has what it takes to go to school hence the encouragement. Did this guys father know his child capabilities? He obviously didn't know and went ahead to waste such money on him. Everyone is about the man's money, no body cares about the boys concerns and feelings. Enough of forcing our will on them already. All they need is our support in what ever career they chose in life, provided its in the right direction. That is why I like the whites. They introduced education to us the blacks but we are now overdoing it more than them in a way its not producing the desired results. Reasons so many graduates today find themselves in the wrong career and are disgruntled and not passionate or satisfied with their profession. |

ismail00: Read my initial post to understand my argument. I'm not saying he should not acquire basic or elementary education but chosing a career path. I didn't cite yul as an example here. Was only responding to what someone said about him, which is quite different from the point I'm trying to stress in my original post. Don't get it twisted, guys. |

Eulalia:you are saying rubbish! We are talking about basic education here not all about specialty or whatever. Enhlish, Maths, Music etc are basic education courses, the lad needs them, after his high school, he can decide whatever he wants. You want him to making grammatical errors and all later in life right? If that happens, even he, won't be happy with his father 1 Like |

You just jumped in on someone's post and say she's talking 'rubbish'... why not be civil and polite about it? We need to learn how to be polite when having a constructive discussion on this platform and not shout down or rub in the mud, someone's point. Make yours and leave. imustmakeit: 1 Like 1 Share |

Eulalia if music isn't generating income I don't that kid would ever though of studying music. The acclaimed passion will not be there in the first place. That kid still need to pass English and Mathematics. Infact he was over pampered |

edoairways: If money is his drive and passion for delving into music, its still justifiable provided he's good at it. At the end of the day, everyones aim is to achieve a common goal which is, to make ends meet from whatever carrer path/profession they find themselves. |

bigtt76:that it is her opinion doesn't make it right. Mentally deranged people also do have their opinions, let's accepts what's right and forget opinion bullshit... "More like saying someone saying rape isn't a bad thing ", is the person's opinion and should be respected, hell No! What is wrong is wrong! Sending your child to school and he boycotts examinations is irresponsibility and not correcting him is bad parenting. You should know 1 Like |

Good point you've made ...I'm not saying she's right or wrong what I'm concerned with is being polite to the other person while pushing your point. You can disagree with someone during a discourse BUT don't use hurtful or insulting words to show your disagreement. You can say 'sorry but I don't agree with your point and this are my reasons' Don't just say ....'You are talking rubbish ....blah blah' or 'This is bullshit...blah blah' Its not good. We are all humans BUT that does not mean we know everything ...we all stand to learn from each other. Seun has been gracious to grant us this platform to express ourselves freely but lets not abuse that generosity to degrade our fellow humans. imustmakeit: 1 Like |

Eulalia: You are unbelievable! Yul's father knew...hence the encouragement. The same 'encouragement you berated in your first post. Are you aware that he wouldn't have been as good and confident as he is now if he didn't go to school? He contested for election which I doubt he would have done without education. In order words he's grateful for the lashing. |
