Convid 19: Some Controversial Issues In Nigeria. by btaliat(m): 6:22pm On Apr 26, 2020
Ever since the first record of convid 19 in February in Nigeria, many controversial issues have followed it especially after the lockdown was announced on March 29. Among the controversies are:
1. The issue of palliative: After the lockdown, one would have expected the government to provide adequate provision to engender the stay at home law. But the inept government has not come out with lasting or even working platform. Some time, they claim they want to focus on the vulnerable, at time, they claim it is the poorest of the poor. Up til now, nothing has been done in general on the issue of palliative. It is only some states and some people that have benefitted for the so called palliative.
2. The issue of Chinese doctors: When the announcement was made concerning the invitation of the Chinese doctors, strong opposition followed. From the NMA, to the NGOs and even majority of Nigerians. But despite this, the government still invited the doctors whose quarantine process alone cost government around $1.5 million. Anyway, their quarantine ended yesterday, let's see what they have in stock. However, while many believe the Chinese are here for installation of 5G network, others believe that they are here to change the finger print of the late kyari.
3. Kano saga : As funny as it may be, some government still played politics with this virus. Before the announcement of EU's donation, Kano only recorded one index, shortly after the donation, the number jumped to 23 and still counting. The shock happend when the governor begged federal government for 15 billion naira in fighting the virus. This still begs the question whether the virus is real in kano or not especially as their market was flooded with people a day to Ramadan.
4. Relaxation in of lock down: When Buhari announced the lockdown, one would have expected that oyo state being the 3rd on the list as at then would be included. But no, Osun was announced. Ever since this time, oyo state has never in support of the national programmes. Recently, oyo returned 1800 bags of rice donated by the federal government. And even announced the resumption of some its staff tomorrow.
Other notables one issues are :
5. Fire gutted the chief accountant office after the house set to investigate in the money they have spent on on the social investment programme.
6. The NCDC spent 1 billion on SMS awareness.
7. The figure NCDC reeled out, for instance, they apologized to Ekiti for wrong record. Also, Lagos records 0 on Monday, 20th but records 59 on Tuesday. Does that mean the 59 all developed the symptoms at the same time. (Tues).
Whether the virus is being played on or not, we beseech God to shower His mercy on us. And next time, Nigerians will learn how to choose leaders and not rulers.
