Yes, and get them to do an affidavit of sponsorship

legit90:

Thanks again @dommakavelli

My two sponsors are actually my in-laws, Of which the main sponsor is in the US with his family and he is a nurse there too. So, is it good to state they are my in-laws on the SOP?

Hi everyone, sure we are holding up well?

Someone should kindly advise if a slight modification to my previous SOP won't be termed plagiarism even though I developed it myself and intended using most of the paragraphs for my reapplication.

Hello PaJay008,

No, its not. However, its advisable to either restructure the previous or draft a new copy.

Random question,

Please why is it that post graduate college applicants usually have more rejection rates that university applicants? NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE, just asking.

Two of my friend got their visa update, the one going to Manitoba got hers approved, the second going to Conestega got rejected.

Hello Wunaarroon69,

Its of the obvious that many people thinks that a University has higher approval rate than its counterpart. This is not far from the truth but its apocryphal and debatable. There is no actual preference placed on both institution level when it comes to the VO though some few schools in Canada are highly recognized "based on discretion" on the grounds of its repute and popularity within the country.

This two institution level serves different purposes:

1. When it comes to professional and practical academic works, Colleges has more programs/courses.

2. When it comes to theory and thesis/research academic works, University has more programs/courses.

The VO now applies discretion in analysing and evaluating which actually depicts progression or self-development with connections to how it has been talked about in an SOP/LOE and the packaged application.

In my opinion, this debate will ever remain inconclusive.

Hi Guys... @Frankrobbn1 @justwise so im thinking of applying to Humber College Web Design and Development program

Credential: Certificate of Achievement
Program Length: 2 semesters

I already gained Admission to Georgian College for a 2yrs diploma in Interactive Media Design - Web +Co-op last year which i differed to this year sept 2020. But being that im self sponsoring i want to play it safer with a one year program because of proof of funds gathering. My challenge is does it matter the credential one gets .. Humber is Certificate of Achievement while Georgian is Ontario College Diploma.

What is really driving this thought is with Georgian Estimated Tuition for the 1st year is = 17,070.07 and its a 2 yrs program so for proof of funds i would be looking at Tuition 17,070.07 + 1 yr Living 10,000 + 2000 = $29070.07... => N8,015,820 ,, if i am going to put together proof of funds i also have to add the tuition for the 2nd yr to answer the question of me covering my cost of tuition without needing to work in canada.. thats an extra N4,706,930 summing it up to N12,722,750.... i am a married man with 3 kids.. im not going with my family so i will need to more money to show that i still have money left behind for the family... so we are looking at 15Million at least... all this for Georgian College...

With Humber College Program

Credential: Certificate of Achievement
Program Length: 2 semesters

The 2020-2021 fee for two semesters is: $9,704.38 = N2,675,900

Additional Costs
Approximately $50 to $500 – web hosting services and recommended textbooks. $500 = N137,871

Living expense 1yr: $10000 = N2,757,410

Misc: $2000 = N551,483

POF needed = N6,122,664+

Adding what i will leave aside for the family lets just say 8M..... Humber is making alot more sense... but my question is... Certificate of Achievement vs Diploma

What would you advice.... anyone...

Hello Vsylva,

Your proof of funds is good and you are expected to show for one year then demonstrated that you have a reliable source for the subsequent year. However, the VOs sometimes take the significance and relevance of the prospect course and program type into consideration. This is not infeasible to achieve but you must come with a satisfactory and logical reasons.

Recently, I read a GCMS notes where the VO placed irrelevance on the cost and course of study which is "Certificate of Achievement in Computer/IT. The person applied from Europe and has a Master. I will assume that before you opted for both programs, you may have done your home work based your the degree of your well-analysed query.

If you know quite well that you are certain of being able to layout justifiable and logical reasons for your academic intentions, then you need not to worry. My take in this is that I will let you decide for yourselves with these quick run-through;

1. If the sole purpose of wanting to study in Canada is Immigration, the 2yrs program is well-suited and in some ways saves you additional tuition cost of enrolling for another one year program. This gives you the 3yrs PGWP which is enough to bout it out for your PR.

2. If the sole purpose is wanting to gain extra knowledge and career advancement in you home country, then the 1yr program is ideal.

I hope I was able to help!

@vysylva,
I always try to put myself in the position of a VO. The question I would be asking if I were the VO is why would someone spend so much money going to study so as to get a Certificate of Attendance. Doesn’t make much sense. I would have suggested you try and gather some more money for your POF. Or if your wife has a job you may explain that she can take care of the homefront while you are away. Or if you can present a business incorporated that she will be running to take care of herself while you are gone. I don’t know whether these will work o because I am not an expert, just trying to think of what I would do in your shoes.

Besides with the certificate program are you sure it’s up to 1 year? If it’s not up to 1 year you may not get PGWP.
Another advantage the diploma program has is the co-op. That’s very valuable working experience that will eventually help you when it comes time to apply for residence.

It may be better you pause, save a bit more, get a new admission and apply when your POF is solid. Just a suggestion sha.

Hello Luckymama,

Very insightful post but to your penultimate paragraph, a co-op work experience doesn't qualify the person for a PR., the PGWP does.

One love!

Good Morning All, as regards letter of sponsorship from my Dad, should I use his personal letter head (just his name and address) ? or his company letterhead (because aside his personal statement of account, I’m also using his company statement of account)?

Thanks

Both are good but the company letterhead will be preferrable.

I will advise against this.
Why?
If he uses his company account to sponsor you considering the fees run in millions, the VO will be like, won't it affect the company's operations, won't it affect staff salaries.. etc
My 2kobo, use his personal letter head and not the company's letter head..

Good day all, hope you're staying safe? I pray the blessing of this month touches every corners of the world and make it safe again. Amin.

I have 3 questions and will be glad if they could answered.

1. For a 2yrs program, am I declaring the whole tuition fee on the IMM1294 form or just the first year tuition?

2. If it's the whole tuition I am declaring, does it means the customary $CAD10,000+ towards living expenses becomes $CAD20k+ also?

3. Lastly, on the sponsor letter, what would be declared by the sponsor: Whatever he has in all accounts (in case it's 2 SOA from different banks) or whatever he wants to commit to sponsoring you?

Thanks for your prompt replies..

Hello Crystalheart,

Its better you declare that of your first year only and same is applicable for your LE. This way you will be able to demonstrate enough funds. The writing tone of the sponsorship letter would determine what to or how to state it. For example, saying "I have a closing balance of NGN xx and thus I am capable to sponsor... or "I am committing the sum of NGN xx to my ... studies in Canada. If it was well explained then I believe you were able to get your answer.

Hi all,
Has anyone been able to apply for a visa since the COVID lockdown began? All VACs are closed in my area and I am guessing it means I will have to apply online. Will one still need to submit biometric since the VACs are closed?

Hello Mofpearl,

You may not give one if you're not a first time applicant and for first time applicants, it will be given within 90days due to the pandemic. For now, just only the online route is functioning.

Thank you very much. My intention is not to use his company SOA for sponsorship but just to show that he has a running business. I’m actually using his personal SOA and fixed deposits as evidence of sponsorship and as they cover my tuition and LE.

Any contrary view?

You will need to proof the source of the sponsor's income. So maybe proof of business ownership from CAC. or article of incorporation, tax return etc.

Hello,

Can someone recommend a cheap college to do a 2 yrs diploma in finance related course (HR, Entrepreneur, Financial Analysis etc)? Also, I will like the school to be in a province where one can easily get student job while studying.

I choose 2 years so that one can get 3 years post study visa, leading to permanent residency.

Thanks
