As a true Christian , Christ admonished us to pay them a visit.

Often times I go there with my church, it's always touching, it's a different world, a lot of lessons learnt, a different level of knowledge and understanding gained.

Find time to always pay them visit most probably with church members.

It's just the name is scary and I've heard lots of negative things about prisons. But is it safe for visitors? Or don't you guys get scared that one of them might harm you?

No, there is a boundary between you two depending on the structure of the building
The one we visited was that of ENUGU CORRECTIONAL CENTRE, and there you are others will wait at visitors place which is close to a desk, let me just call it a receptionist desk. So they will give you a thick plastic card, then they will call for the attention of those you come to see, this is after the security /gate procedure ooo, because you can't just pop into prison that way, so since we came to visit the Catholic prisoners, they have a well organisation Catholic prisoners responsible for collecting items from the Catholic visitors, they were seven in numbers, mainly men, so our Padre did his work of counsels and prayers and we handed the food stuff to them and bind them farewell. But from that small office or place you can see vividly the prison football field and hostels.
That is just my experience, but ONE WARDER at the gate SCARED ME WHEN HE TOLD ME "boy if you lost that card, you automatically become a prisoner, so hold it well, don't lost the card" one seconded by saying "ticket in, no ticket out" that is they gave you a card to go in, if you lost it, no card to bring you out. FUNNY RIGHT?
