...For Violating Social Distancing Rules

Governors' Mandate Network has urged Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to prosecute Lucky Imasuen and those who gathered in his house today in violation of social distancing rules.

The Governors' Mandate lamented that when the government and the NCDC are trying to save lives and stop the spread of coronavirus in the country, Imasuen, who was a former deputy governor of Edo state to professor osunbor is playing politics with the lives of people.

The Mandate further lamented that prominent members of Edo State like Pastor Ize Iyamu, the former governorship of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Deputy Governor to Adams Oshiomhole, Pius Odubu and others, who were supposed to know better gathered at Imasuen's house to conduct a mock primary.

The Governors' Mandate Network, in a statement by its Chairman, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, noted that in the midst of lockdown, Imasuen and other members of his camp, numbering about 200 were organizing a mock election primary, to chose a consensus candidate for the forthcoming Edo state governorship election.

The Mandate said that while others are battling to save the state from the ravaging coronavirus, the only concern of Imasuen and others from his camp is to see how they can wrestle power from Governor Obaseki, ahead of Edo State governorship election.

The Governors' Mandate tasked the governor and the NCDC to Prosecute Imasuen so as to serve as deterrent to others, who are in the habit of violating the laid down rules in the country.

Aside the prosecution, the Governors' Mandate also charged the NCDC to ensure that all the people that were at the venue of the mock primary are quarantine.

The Mandate said: "It is high time Nigerians learn to respect the laws governing this country. It is no longer a secret that the nation is at war and we cannot afford to be careless with this deadly coronavirus. The action of Imasuen and others who gathered for mock primary in violation of social distancing rules should not be overlooked. They should be prosecuted and all who participated quarantined."
