Generally it may be assumed that the soil could not withstand the intended load. Then critii looking at the structure, materials used are substandard. At the fourth floor an integrity test would ve been conducted but the usual assumption by our engineers is that ego stand nah. See were it ended. Same happened in unilag but was covered up. 2 Likes |

Why will the building not collapse when nepotism and mediocrity is the other of the day. The real engineers are roaming the streets or flying to Canada while the mediocres are made Coren president. What will pain you most is that a particular section of this country sees not wrong in nepotism, thereby surpoting a particular section of the country that are kings of nepotism... We will all suffer this together bc when things like ebola, covid 19, collapsed building, hunger comes nocking, it doesn't choose specific people to nock at their door, it affects every one. Did covid 19 spare kyari? OK. Is hunger sparing the people of SW and every other region? OK. |

Thank God Renters have not rented it already. Don't know why all this contractor will be using substandard materials without considering the fact that is humans that will stay in there . Hope it didn't harm any one but if it did , it serves they right cause I can't imagine why someone as a labourar will work when he knows that the contractor is using substandard materials. 1 Like |

Engage a professional builder, you said no, now see the end result. Soil test is very paramount in the construction of a high rise building, followed by the foundation, because the weight of the building is carried by the foundation before transferring it to the soil. Hence more emphasis should be on the bearing capacity of the soil when dealing with high rise building. 2 Likes |

NORSYK: I wasnt expecting less. That building has remained uncompleted for more than 30years. That used to be the house for every mad man in Owerri. If you grew up in Owerri back back, you will remember that mad man called "guy man", that used to be his house. "Guy man" then, if you ever call him that name, he will chase you to where ever you run to. Fun experience then but remembering it now, it's a terrible experience. 1 Like |

Nefort: Indeed. Geoglogical conditions can change due to external factors. A simple change in the drainage system in a neighbourhood can alter the ground conditions and threaten significant civil structures. |

NextD18: Ur second paragraph make so much sense to me. i tink the problem came from the soil, Nigerians hardly do soil test at least to know the type of foundation needed. Looking at that structure, it has not even carried any load at all. The dead loads are not even complete not to talk of several impending live loads and here there is a collapse. |
