Group commends "knowledgeable" religious leaders in fight against COVID-19

A Civil Society Organization, Citizens Awareness Against Corruption and Social Vices Initiative (CAACSAVI) has commended what it called "Knowledgeable" religious leaders in the fight against the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

The group said their efforts had significant facilitated the efforts of the government and related agencies in curbing the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement by its Executive Director, Comrade Olumuyiwa Onlede, it said knowing the complexity of the Nigerian society and its sentiments when it comes to religious matters, these individuals, authorities and bodies have been instrumental in the the quest for a co-ordinated and equitable approach to managing the dreaded Corona virus pandemic in the country.

"We commend the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar IV, the President Jama’atu Nasir Islam (JNI) for his doggedness in the fight against Coronavirus pandemic, his efforts was evident in the series of media engagements and religious enlightenment which has gone a long way to educate Muslim faithfuls on the need to obey constituted authorities during lockdown and the need to maintain social distancing even when lockdown is no longer in place by enjoining them to adhere to directives of relevant health organisation especially NCDC,"

"We also appreciate the effort and support of the General overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor E.A Adeboye and Pastor Sam Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Center in feeding the people with the word of God about what the Bible says about pandemic situation like we find ourselves in this time of Coronavirus. There is no gainsaying that your sermon in support of various efforts by government at all level and other health agencies was able to calm nerves and subdue the dissenting voices of some unknowledgeable clerics whose mission in ministry is not to save lives spiritually and physically but that of wealth acquisition even to the detriment of their congregation,"

"Knowing full well that most Nigerians are overzealous when it comes to their various religion but without the basic understanding of the word, some bad elements in the name of cleric tried to use that opportunity to cause unrest in Nigeria during the lockdown but they failed due to the effort of this religious leaders and some others whose voices may not have been heard but were able to calm nerves within their own little way."

The motive behind every religion is to give light to an otherwise dark world. Good thing we still have those who even in the practice of faith, do not become blinded by pride and huge followership to sway with unfounded popular opinion.

Cheers to these ones and the unsung heroes of religion/atheism who don't buy into controversies but stand by truth and common sense
