On Thursday 28th April 2020 the speaker of house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila sponsored a bill to grant the director general of NCDC so much power.

Some of the powers granted to the DG and minister of health in the bill includes

1. Power to arrest anyone without warrant

2. Power to convert any building in Nigeria to isolation center

3. Power to control the police and other enforcement agencies to arrest anyone.

4. Power to cancel any public gatherings including churches, mosques, social gatherings etc.
5. The bill also made it compulsory for all Nigerians to be vaccinated which makes people believe it's related to Anti-Christ and 666

The bill has passed second reading but Nigerians are kicking against it saying it gives DG of Nigeria disease control (NCDC) and minister of health too much power.

There are criticism that the bill doesn't focus on saving lives of Nigerians but rather it mentioned DG of NCDC 134 times much higher than it mentioned disease.

Another reason Nigerians are kicking against it is that it is copied word to word from Singapore disease act.

However, on Tuesday 5th of May, the national assembly will give its verdict on the bill by voting for or against it.

This is the Bill

When you read the Act, you can see that there is potential for abuse leading to infringement of civil liberties and human rights
