Good day house,
I want to start a home vegetable garden, in pots/containers (custard buckets) because my compound doesnt have space and is cemented. I dont know which vegetables will survive in pots.

Please kindly suggest vegetables I can plant (,and how i can plant them and any extra effort I need to help them grow eg fertilizers or manure/compost)

My location is Osun state (so you can factor in the weather/environment).

PS: I am interested in Tomato, Pepper, Mint leave (Efirin), Okro, Ugu, Lemon-grass

Your interest is amazing. I have not tried but tomatoes can surely survive. Ugu too cos it's main concentration is outside.

You ll need to fertilize it though hence no enough soil nutrients

Nice one! They can all survive in containers. I did same beginning of the year. I haven't bought ugu, water outside since.

What the plants really need are constant water supply.

You can get jerry cans (20 litres or so). Cut them through vertically close to the top.

You can get soil from anyone into gardening and fill the jerry cans up.

Though I have little ground which I planted okro and green (efo) but majority of my vegetables are planted in the jerry cans.

I am based in Ile Ife and would be available to assist if you are based same place.

Its very difficult to start the gardening at home and also very difficult to get the ans of that question, how can you start the growing vegetable at home. The best tomato planter found online is very difficult to find.

You can do it. I'm currently planning towards that with this thing I stumbled upon on YouTube. You can collect plastic bottles, cut them and hang on walls where they can receive sunlight. Watch this video on YouTube :

Fo a backyard garden I think your best material to use is empty cement bags,it is free in some areas and the texture of the material will let air in and excess water out,those plastic buckets will be costly and the crops roots will be starved of oxygen,this is a pic of a garden egg and pepper sack farm by my small kids this enforced holidays,it proves that almost any crop can be sack farmed,also sacks are adjustable, if you fill soil to 60%space will be left to contain manure application as time goes on and the folded sack will be unfolded for more manure.

Ebooks downloaded from the net by armchair farmers will never tell you the full story,its better to meet and talk to a practicing farmer,visit farms physically and see the realities they face

Yes You can plant onion with seed, water leaves, cucumbers, bell pepper, tomato, aleovera, water melon, letus, carrot, etc. I've done all these before and it was really a blessing eating what i produced myself using buckets and containers due to the fact that there was no planting space around. In fact my neighbors were even benefiting from it better than i did because i traveled a lot. The pictures are just a few, i moved house so i haven't got time to replant

Store bought seeds, usually improved varieties. The soil was gotten from a virgin land very fertile and black. But usually from observation crops like cucumber, water melon and cabbage because they were planted using 7 litre buckets would not do well if you don't add fertilizer. Not much though lest you kill the plant just like the cap from glass bottle mineral drinks.
