It is often true for most of us that life is a constant tussle between an anticipation of the future and a preoccupation with events past.

It's the desire to be someplace else.. A feeling of inadequacy; of here(now) not being good enough.
We've learned since childhood of the wonders that the future held, dreamed about all the things we could accomplish when we grew up. That reward, is the hope that lit our early days_feeling like stars and the world our stage.

An unconscious belief now held of something or somewhere as always better, leading to an obsessive need to achieve.. Then we grow up holding what could arguably be described as fantasies whilst experiencing life's harsh realities. This in turn breeds an incongruent feeling in us cause deeply ingrained in human nature, is the desire to have things go our way.. Hence the want of being somewhere else cause here(now) reminds us of so much we aren't having our way. Whether it be the want of a better job, a better partner, better living conditions.. the yearning to attain a higher social standing or the desire to feel better about ourselves.

Whatever be the need, we often expect too much of ourselves with so little time to blossom.. It can be likened to a seed sown today and expecting a bountiful harvest today, failing to understand that life is a process. There's nothing wrong in wanting to be better; it's the idea of progress. But at best, most of our desires are merely a depiction of society's clamour for more which yields a short lived sense of fulfilment.

If only we could look at life objectively, then we'd come to a realization that there is no better place to be than right here and now, not in some distant achievement that promises respite from our long and hard toil but that the best day to do your best work is today and it(today) being the only tool we possess to get us to the tomorrow we crave.

The solution therefore, would be to put off our over_the_top expectance of the splendors of the future and understanding that today offers opportunity disguised as adversity. Only then can one maintain a positive attitude through life's storms_ finding joy in doing purposeful work, and cultivating a spirit of gratitude; not of where you'd rather be, but of the progress that is made day by day, giving you 100%.

As written by Esther and Jerry Hicks(Abraham Hicks), " There is no desire that anyone holds for any other reason than that they believe they will feel better in an achievement of it. Whether material object, a physical state of being, a relationship, a condition or circumstance_at the heart of every desire is the desire to feel good. And so, the standard of success in life is not on the things or the money_ the standard of success is absolutely the amount of joy you feel.
Put simply: find joy in the process( life's journey) cause our expectations have capability of altering reality.
