SWITZERLAND, MAY 04 – Perhaps, many Nigerians had never paid attention to the office of the Chief of Staff (COS) to the President until the late Abba Kyari came and redefined that position. The late COS was larger than life; many considered him a powerful, conservative, and controversial man who rarely spoke but wielded enormous influence on the government and remained loyal to his president till the end. Kyari’s death from COVID-19 has created a huge vacuum in the presidency that will be difficult to fill. When he was alive, he had the complete trust of President Muhammadu Buhari and was pivotal to most of the decisions made by the Nigerian government. In his demise, several people have speculated on who his successor might be. Today’s Echo lists and examines seven likely candidates for the job.
