It is high time we address a misconception that has bewildered this nation since 1996.. Chioma Ajunwa didn’t win Nigeria’s first ever medal at the Olympics, Nojim Maiyegun did.

While fighting for Nigeria at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Nojim secured a Bronze medal for the Green White Green.

Chioma Ajunwa went two steps ahead of Nojim at the Atlanta 96 games by becoming the first person ever to win an individual gold medal for Nigeria.
