Those are camels of course. What sort of a question is this? If you understand the history of Kano and the trans-Sahara trade of yore and the roles that camels played in that trade, then you will understand why they had to include the camel on their coat of arms.

But why anyone would even think of using camels as shield supporters is quite baffling to me. Sort of makes it look a bit clumsy.

They could have easily deployed the camels as a charge like you have in the Eritrean coat of arms.

Camels and mind you they are beast of burden. They can drink a lot of water.
