Help My Friend Decide: 5million Or A 100k Job?

A friend of mine just got an offer from his late brother's company few months after his demise.

His late brother having been a prominent personality (head of finance) in the company he worked before he died, made the company to offer his younger brother my friend two options..

1. 5million naira cash or

2. a 100k job per month in the Same company.

we need your professional advice pls

If he's business minded and knows what he's doing, he should take the 5M.. If not, he should seek employment, 100k should be enough to take care of him

Even if you are paid 200k, in 5 years you might not be able to save up to 5million. Even if the salary is 200k, I will still take the 5 million..
Ordinary 200k.. I know lots of people that earn above 500k monthly and can't save up to 1M. It's not easy to save up oo

Hmmm, you can't ask someone like me looking for that same 5m at the moment.

People are not seeing the bigger picture here.

5m is a saved money which at a start, no expenses is on it.

100k job will mean lots of things. If you are prudent enough to be saving 50k on a monthly basis from 100k income (not realistic due to unforeseen circumstances), it will take approximately 8.5yrs to save (not earn) 5m.

In as much as this offer is not restricting you from accepting other offers aside that of d company, believe me, you can achieve a lot with the 5m.
Don't even ask someone that is saving up to relocate out of the country this kind of question.

5m now is guaranteed, 100k from now is not.. Just look at how dem take sack people anyhow due to this unforeseen Coro period.
My brother, sit back and draw plans on the 5m. U can collect it and block the money in an account bfo u come up with better articulated plan. Even if e go take months to come up with one.

I need just 4m to quit my well satisfactory job. Comfort zone na set up o baba.

Peace Argentina

It depends on ur mind...Collect 5m if you have Investments plan/ Enterpreneurship skill....otherwise go for the 100k u may have more peace of mind there...
Re: N5 Million Cash Or A 100k Job? Help Him Decide by shoprite: 10:44am On May 11, 2020
Your brother will need to work 4 years and 2 months to earn N5m . . .remember this does not mean that he will save N5m....his monthly spending will come from the N100k . . .rents, feeding, utilities etc . . .so don't even think about saving N5m in 5 years on a N100k pay. What's the guaranty that he will still have that job in the next 5 years with employers going on sacking spree every now and then. My advise . . .grab the N5m and have a chat with investment experts . . .Who knows, he can still get a job else where if he is not already employed while the investment rolls by the side.

5m in this period can buy lots of things...
Collect the money. Na only person who never work before will advise him to go for the job offer.
Take 5m if u don't know what to do, fix it for monthly return with a micorfinance or cooperative society.

Or better still start applying for Germany or Canada visa

This is the point where he has to choose between Job security and being an entrepreneur.

With 5Million naira, a savvy entrepreneur could find his way to becoming a multi millionaire in the next decade through commodity trading.

If your friend has interest to become a business person, tell him to go for the 5m but if he doesn't have flair for business, then sticking to the 100k job is an ideal option to choose.
My story: My boss settled me with 1.5m Naira for serving him for seven years, 2.5 years after my settlement, I have built my own house in the village, seeing three of my younger siblings through different Universities, enrolled myself in a distance learning program (NOUN), now own three different business outlets with investment in other fellow savvy entrepreneur's businesses, reaping monthly dividends on my investments.

There's no better way to spin around money faster than getting into trading business. TB, FX, mutual fund etc...can't offer that. Again, I repeat; if he has interest in business, advise him to go for the 5m. That may be the beat choice he will ever make all his life.
Please can you explain this trading business in details

... This is a good business for you know but there is no freaking way you would maintain a profit margin of 7k daily esp in the wet season.
That being said, so far you have no competition clearly... Wait until competition comes and it must.
In Nigeria to maintain a steady business margin as you claim, your services have to be unique ( scarce or skilled business) or you must have guarded monopoly.

Bro all am saying is business is not as easy as planned in the head.
I know you wondering which one of the picks I would go for...of course, the N5M. I am not one to take orders or wake up by the clock every morning. I love my freedom BUT instead of business, I would invest in landed properties

Businesses have their boom periods and I have planned for it too. I intend to add ice moulding to it to augment for the relapse in case of short fall in demand for chilled water. People must drink water you know and even in cold seasons, certain people still prefer chilled drinks.

Yes, there is competition but I beat them with price and availability of the product at all times. I have a cousin who supplies me water whenever I want so I have it all the time.

The answer will depend on the size of his brain (that is how intelligent and hardworking is he).
If he is good at the above, collect the 5M, if not just jejely collect the 100k job

Even a fool knows 5 million naira is the right option

with 5 million naira I will buy 2 Toyota Corrola and put it on uber / taxify and I will register with Jumia delivery partners like AIG logistic, i'll drive one and get a driver to drive the other one .. I bet you my monthly earning from jumia delivery + Uber + Taxify would exceed 500k a month after cost of vehicle depreciation, salary and vehicle mentainance, and every 6 months I would expand my fleet , and with a good comprehensive insurance premium of 80k-120k per anum, my investment are fvcking safe.. infact I might be tempted to pray for an accident or for the car to get stolen as I would get the cost of my car back as claims

but 100k running someones business where you don't have executive decisions or business decision is like cowardly placing your life In the hands of company directors that can fire you at anytime

Please bro we need to talk asap. I have mailed you

What about the tendency that he gets dropped after some months due to the virus?
Just seeing this in another way.
Take the money if you want to be wealthy or take 100k and be rich.

None of those monies guarantees richness or wealth. He should just take the 5M and go find work somewhere else if he wants a salary job. Jobs, he can get... money, no one will give him free anywhere.

If he choses the 100k, he would spend 50months working to get the 5million which is staring at him which is about 4years plus.

Best advice is to take the 5million, secure an admission to study abroad (funding will not take up to that), get your work permit while schooling. After schooling opportunities come, you get your resident permit. Shikena
