Anambra 2021: The Ibrahim Gambari Factor. by Ezewuzie01: 6:34pm On May 12, 2020
With the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari as the new chief of staff, the Dynamics of the next guber election in Anambra has changed. The PDP which is the biggest opposition in Anambra state have had so many new entrants who want to succeed the current governor Chief Willie Obiano. They include Dr Godwin Maduka, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, Chief Osita Chidoka, Chief Godwin Ezeemo, Engr Chris Azubogu as the perceived front-runners.

But many have forgotten so soon the 2017 candidate of PDP, Dr Oseloka Obaze, who hasn't hidden his desire to get another go at the coveted seat of power in Anambra state. Dr Obaze is a retired diplomat who served in the United Nations as an adviser to the then under secretary Prof Ibrahim Gambari who held sway from 2002 to 2005. They have remained friends ever since.

Now that Gambari has found himself in the corridors of power and with the President's ears at close call, it is safe to say that Obaze is also going to benefit. However, whether that will help Obaze in his quest to become governor in 2021 regardless of the zoning arrangements in the state, remains to be seen. Apart from that, party differences could be a barrier. Obaze is a PDP stalwart and a leader of the party in Anambra state while Gambari serves at the pleasure of the APC administration. It remains to be seen whether Obaze will decamp to APC or remain in PDP and get the party's ticket with presidential Fiat, as the race for Anambra 2021 hots up. It will surely be an interesting ride.

APC is very weak in Anambra, any APC candidate will come a distant 4th as they did in Imo.

cool

Godsfrey Onyeama was the worst most under performing Minister of the First term, yet he was re-appointed for a second term, Femi - Fani Kayode was the craziest of all the critics of APC and President Buhari, he had two corruption cases with EFCC, one since his days as Aviation Minister and the second as a campaign Director under Jonathan, yet he remained safe from EFCC Prosecution...

This was what Abba Kyari did for his best friend Godfrey Onyeama, and Fani Kayode his class mate who gave him his first job as a lawyer at Femi's fathers chamber

I believe Professor Agboola would find something for his friend and hold UN adviser, but definitely not Governoship, Obiano is also close to Buhari and APC and they wont want to repay his loyalty with evil

I am just saying that Oseloka Obaze now has a brighter chance of emerging the PDP candidate or even the APC candidate if Gambari sells him to the party through Buhari.

Other parties don't agree with APGA on zoning. Besides in 2017, Chief Chidoka from Anambra Central and Chief Ezeemo from Anambra south went defied zoning and contested though their results were miserable.

Obaze's utmost desire is to become Anambra governor. He will feel this is his chance and will do everything to take it as far as contesting is concerned. Whether he wins will depend bon the voters though.

Obaze is out of the equation and APC won't do anything that will jeopardize their chances of winning.

Their past mistakes is a great lesson to them.

Obaze doesn't want to wait. Peter Obi promised him and that's why he came back to Nigeria. Last last, Obi betrayed him and settled with Obiano. The thing is still paining him.

He is depending on Obi and Gambari to fund his campaign. He has said he must surely contest.

Tony Okafor, Awka
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2017 governorship elections in Anambra State , Mr Oseloka Obaze , has expressed his interest in seeking for the office come 2021 .
Obaze , who was Secretary to the Anambra State Government during the administration of former governor Peter Obi , said he remained the candidate of the party until otherwise stated .
When reminded that the sentiment in that state was that Anambra South Senatorial District should produce the next governor, Obaze , who is from Anambra North , the same district as the current Governor Willie Obiano , said , “ Zoning is a red herring, since it’ s party - based . And what is applicable is what the party constitution says .
“ If the operative words here are ‘ thrown open ’ , it presupposes that the party is jettisoning its extant zoning policy , which is not the case . As far as I know , the PDP is not into zoning . As to my personal disposition , since 2017 , I have been in the race .
“ I remain in the race and will always be in the race , because I have been proactively engaged in the process of engendering purposeful leadership and sustainable development change to Anambra State .
“ Like most , I remain painfully conscious of Anambra ’ s need for a skilled leader that is committed to redirecting the state towards sustainable development and greatness . I ’ m also mindful that Anambra has experienced huge missed opportunities and loss of time , financial and material resources . That ought to be redressed urgently . ”
He debunked claims in some quarters that the PDP was factionalised, adding , “ Our executive members are intact with Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu as the chairman .
“ I must admit , however , that there are some people within and on the fringes of the party , who like to create uncertainties that give impetus to mercantile politics .
“ Such people believe we are yet in another ‘ trading season . ’ But my personal view is that the party is supreme and must ensure discipline within its rank and file .
“ Those who undermine the party ought to be disciplined . We witnessed such disciplinary actions in the recent past. ”
