The Ballon d’Or is an annual prestigious award given to football players who have shown a tremendous performance throughout the previous season. The first time the award was given, was in 1956. There was an agreement between 2010 and 2015 to merge the Ballon d’Or with the FIFA World Player of the Year award. In 2016, however, this agreement was terminated and Ballon d’Or became yet again a separate award given to footballers regardless of who will win The Best FIFA Men’s Player title.
