Two past Igbo Leaders made a critical mistake that did not keep Nigeria in this present condition but also put Igbos in a political disadvantaged position. I am an Igbo before you spew trash her The first Person Nnamdi Azikiwe He continued shouting one Nigeria till he died, till today Nigeria have never been one and will not be in not even in hundreds of years to come. I always nod my head when I see some people attacking Britain for that unholy marriage called the Amalgamation of Northern and Southern protectorate. After the Berlin Conference, the territory Niger area fell under Britain and as you know Britain did not have enough personnel and resources to administer the colony so the need for the amalgamation. Towards the tail end of British administration and in the Constitutional conference that ushered in Independence Nigeria ethnic nationals were asked if they prefer to be together as one or go their separate ways. Zik been the most prominent, outspoken and educated nationalist insisted on the ethnic groups remaining together even when the other leaders were not in favour of such arrangement. AGUIYI IRONSI Before the military Coup of 1966 which was perceived as a very sectional coup, Nigeria have regions, The Western Region, Northern Region, Eastern Region and the Mid Western Region. After the failed Coup, the Highest ranking officer in the person of Aguiyi Ironsi became the head of state. In his unification decree, regional government was abolished. This was the dead of already the fast rising Western region which was known as the largest cocoa producing part of West Africa, the fast developing South East region with its oil palm production, and the fast growing Northern region which prides itself with it's gigantic groundnut pyramid. After his death and the emergence of Northerners in the scheme of affairs of Nigeria. We started having divide and rule mentality. Marginalisation of the Southern Region and this has lead Nigeria to backward retrogression. 2 Likes |

manuelreports: Why do so many ignoramuses are allowed to create threads on this forum? They will take JAMB many times yet blame their teachers for common deductive reasoning. How could someone abolish regionalism yet appoint regional governors? The decree #34 which scumbags in Nigeria tried to turn into abrogation of regionalism was mere unification of civil service in Nigeria had nothing to with unitary government. The silly imagination of economic growth in the northern and western regions was a hogwash. Eastern region, in addition to agricultural produce, was home to coal, Crude oil and other mineral resources. It was the essence of crude oil in eastern region, ironically which feeds the dumbass Nigeria, instigated Britain to spur western region and northern region to hoist a war of attrition on eastern region. If both western and northern region were on the way to heaven with cocoa and groundnuts respectively, why would the same regions worry about eastern region which would economic burden to them? The truest fact on earth was that eastern region has become the golden goose. 2 Likes |
