Do JW believe in Prophecies or not? Paul listed it as part of the 1 Cor 13 you quoted. Just thinking

Of course, Paul said prophecies are part of the things that WILL BE DONE AWAY WITH!

Because after it's fulfilments there is no reason expecting it to happen again! undecided

Jesus told the Jews "I did not come to abolish the law but TO FULFILL IT" Matthew 5:17

Jesus could say this because his teachings and ministry as Messiah will fulfill all what the laws and prophets have been working round the clock to inculcate in their minds! Matthew 22:40

Jesus successfully established Christianity, all the laws were suspended for good only for worshipers of God to stick to the thoughts, words and actions of Jesus Christ, this will make you perform excellently than anyone who still abides by those laws! Romans 10:4

So prophets and prophecies will become useless after their works have ended! John 3:25-30

God bless you! smiley

So you are saying that the manifestations of spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit are obsolete, that they are no longer manifested because they are out-of date, hmm? Am I correct is second guessing you that way?

You sure, no doubt, are different. Ego is one of the biggest enemies of man

So you are saying the possible 9 manifestations of the gift of the Holy Spirit is deception, huh? Are you familiar at all with the end part of the following next two sentences "It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have," hmm? (i.e. 1 Corinthians 12:11b)

We are Jehovah's Witnesses, the one and only group under the direction of that first century Jewish carpenter whose optimism is beyond compare! John 14:6

Please there is no need bothering yourselves thinking we are your brothers in FAITH, because if you're not with us you can never be our brother! Matthew 12:46-49 compare to John 13:34-35

You are our neighbour! Luke 10:25-37

JW has indoctrinated JW fellow Christian brothers neighbours that all 9 manifestations of the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit do not count anymore. This is the reason for Maximus69's own admission, as seen in the above emboldened, in saying that JW don't believe in Prophecies nor know secret things JW fellow Christian brothers don't know!

I have corrected you countless times on this notion Sir!

If you're not one of Jehovah's Witnesses, you can't possibly be my brother!

There are three circumstances that makes people refer to one another as brothers:-

Blood
Trade
Faith

I never knew nor seen you before, we are not related in anyway, you and i aren't partners in business, we don't share the same faith so what exactly makes you my brother tori Olórun? undecided

Jesus said all people around me should be viewed as my neighbours {Luke 10:25-37} so you're one of them, i must love you the way i love myself.

But as for members of my FAITH Jesus imposed a commandment on me saying
"a new commandment i am giving you, that you should love one another just as i have loved you (not as Maximus69 love himself) so you must love one another, by this all will know that you are my disciples if you have LOVE amongst yourselves" John 13:34-35

Note that Jesus called this "a new commandment" which totally differs from the ones every Jew have been taught before! Mark 12:32-33

So the love i must have for someone like you should be equal to the one i have for myself, but the one for my JW brothers must surpass that, it is the type of love Jesus had for me he sacrificed his life for me, that's the kind of love that JWs must cultivate amongst ourselves!

So you can now see that you're not my brother in anyway, nevertheless you are my neighbour! smiley

You must have developed reading deficiencies or you haven't rinsed your face with water properly this morning, because I don't know why you are crossing out "fellow Christian brothers" texts when its yourself with your own fingers who in the first instance typed it

Another thing is, where have you read anyone on this thread, going out of their way, to refer to you as his/her brother. Ignorance and arrogance are a lethal combination. Smh behaving as if an "oloorun atọle." I won't be surprised if it turns out you actually are

Yes Sir i only wanted to clarify issues further!

When Christendom Churches speak of "fellow believers", they often pretend as if everything is OK.

For instance, Adeboye will publicly refer to Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) or Cherubim and Seraphim (C & S) as fellow Christians, but will never officiate in any of their gatherings nor allow them to officiate in his own Church as the phrase "fellow believers" truthfully means.

So Jehovah's Witnesses on our own refer to members of our organization ONLY whenever we say so, that's why we won't even pray with you if you're not one of Jehovah's Witnesses! smiley

Good morning brother, the early bird catches the worm. We thank Abba for the gift of sleep

Before deciding if to create a topic for the exegesis of 1 Corinthians 14, please rate the gift of speaking in tongues on a scale of 0-9

On a scale of 0-9, what score mark, would you give the gift of speaking in tongues, with 9 being the highest possible score of 9/9, 1 being the lowest score of 1/9 and 0/9 means its no value. If you want to rate the gift of prophecy too.

I was hoping to read your thoughts on the topic but as always all you do is advertise your organisation on every thread.

If only you witness Christ Acts 1:8 as much as you witness your organisation, maybe by now you would finally have won a soul.

OKAY, now i understand you Sir!

What JW Organization are echoing can't be grouped as prophesying because they are just contemplating on the fulfilment of prophecies written in God's word!

What Paul was saying is that the gift of prophecies will end when all what God had in mind for the future has been carefully documented. That's the import of the last four verses of the Bible when God said
"NO ADDITION and NO SUBTRACTION!" Revelations 22:18-19

So it has been done away with Sir! What we're doing now is watching out for the fulfilment of Bible prophecies.

@ hoopernikao, Myer, Finallydead

1. It is clear from scriptures that what was spoken in Acts was understood by the people that gathered. Hence, we cannot argue on that as we all agreed.

2. So I came to 1 Corinthians 14 with open mind to investigate and practically apply this misunderstanding of the word "unknown"

3. Because I'm from Lagos state, Badagry so I decided to apply the tongue language of badagry man, "Egun"

4. Because the word "unknown" wasn't in originally translation, I simply read it out everywhere it occurred in 1 Corinthians 14 and everywhere I read "tongue or tongues" in KJV I replace with "language or languages"

5. Since the word "unknown" was added by translations for better understanding, I asked myself, what language or languages is unknown anyway? So I quickly brought my "Egun" language in as practical step......

Is you following me slowly.... cheesy....Btw, that's loosed African American English called ebonics just like we have pidgin or broken English in Nigeria.

6. I STOP and pondered on this word "unknown" and decided to do some imagery in the setting of 1 Corinthians 14, that is, I brought in imagination of worshippers with different languages. So here we go....

So I'm the preacher....so I'm the preacher with egun language and in the audience are French, English, Spanish and Yoruba ( let's limit to those four). Now, remember I STOPPED to practically investigate the word "unknown" assuming I want to use this word while I read through 1 Corinthians 14. So, definitely "egun" language is KNOWN to me as the preacher but UNKNOWN to the listeners. Hence, that word "unknown" is not some sort of language(s) that's from nowhere adding the fact that it was added by translations. SO THAT WORD "UNKNOWN" doesn't apply to ME as the preacher BUT to the listener. In this practical case, egun is UNKNOWN to the listeners.

7. So I started reading slowly, inserting my practical languages and at the same time questioning the texts of Apostle Paul. So here we go: I re read the whole of 1 Corinthians 14 with that concept and it makes much clearer.

I hope we go back to RE-learn or unlearn somethings taught to us in the church while we're new born babes in the Lord.

The challenge with Part 1 is that it's no longer a spiritual gift if you speak a language that's already known to you even though unknown to your audience.

Also it does not line up with 1 Corinthians 14:14

For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Unknown tongue is not a tongue even the speaker understands.

The only explanation is there are 2 different tongues that can be inferred. Known tongues and Unknown tongues.
