The success of most Nigerian music or tracks lies in the beat. The various sound systems in parties, clubs, shows and bars have a way of exemplifying these beats and sounds that one can’t escape making a rhythmical movement to the sounds and beats even if one is Pastor Kumuyi’s disciple.

There were many Nigerian musics I’ve downloaded and listened to at first on my phone, they would sound unacceptable and not interesting to me. But getting to a club, listening to the same musics being played by the DJ, I felt asked myself if the songs were reproduced and some beats added to it. So so amazing they were sounding from the sound systems.

The craze shown by Nigerians to some of these Nigerian musics also add to the acceptability, making them hits. Songs like “kolomental”, and different songs of unique leg and body works nowadays will always want one to listen and crave for these musics, cos we want to feel the actions of people to the songs which are so interesting watching.

Social distancing has just paralyzed every social activity. Even if one has a correct sound system at home, there is always a limit to the decibel one can tune up to cos everyone is at home in order not to constitute nuisance. And the beauty of these songs lies in how loud they are.

Since the implementation of the Lock Down Began , Several Artistes worldwide have released music to help listeners ease through the pandemic. From the Weeknd to Kehlani, Future, Dr Sid , E Kelly ,Wurld , Teni and many other Artistes.

While a lot of listeners which say this is a good move as Artistes can capitalize on the boredom eating deep into everyone and formulate a dedicated audience while also boosting streaming numbers , a lot of other critics have claimed the absence of socialisation and events have greatly the spread of song and their popularity . Events and social gatherings no doubt have aided how a song becomes a hit especially when the DJ is blasting the music repeatedly and people are giving weird and exciting dancing steps to interpret what they make of the music .

Many have claimed that untill the "Outside " is restored and Artistes can go on to perform , do shows, parties are organized and events are hosted , we can never truly say a hit song has been produced .

This brings us to the Question " Has 2020 actually produced any Hit song in Nigeria and how really as the lockdown affected music consumption and popularity in Nigeria and the World at large ?

I totally agree with You .like you rightly stated , the success of most of our " Nigerian " songs is imbedded in the beat . As the saying goes " practise make perfect ". When one hears something repeatedly and sees others dancing and loving the same song , there is 80 percent probability one would love the song too?

The last paragraph caps the whole story . The beauty of these songs lies in how loud they are . In that Regard, can we say we have not had an actual hit In 2020 ?
