So, during my NYSC, I(under MCAN actually) opted to teach female prison inmates. They were split into two classes; primary and secondary section. The secondary could read and write and had some sort of educational background and their classes ranged from agric to chemistry. Then the primary were just—basically primary classes, and included, for the sake of better illustration— semi-literates.

So I had just finished with the secondary class and went to the primary class. Some moments into the class I stopped writing on the board and started dictating from the textbook. They were unresponsive to what I said, I read it again and they were just looking blankly and soon they started laughing. Then one of them said "abeg wẹ no go fit write that one o, you go need write am for board". I should have known this. I felt embarrassed because it seemed like I was highlighting their flaws.

Same class same day, I was explaining to them something about exercise and fatigue. So I gave an example using the premises(outside) of the correctional facility, something like—"if you run from here to the palace..." One of them giggled(like a sad giggle) and said "we don't even know where the palace is". Again, It seemed like I was highlighting their deprivation of freedom and felt bad

This lockdown has not been a funny one, and we were paid last in February (part payments). I was devastated and headed for the school I teach with a mindset that I could collect sth handy from the school.

To my greatest surprise, I saw myself eavesdropping at some noise coming from a distance; the voices were that of sb trying to get sth from sb and the other refusing.

Behold, I met him having sexual relations with a co-teacher. I was bedazzled! Could it be why the lady acts up and flaunt orders comfortably? Little wonders.

It didn't end there. I later met him and he showered me a truck of excuses using the lockdown as subterfuges.

I could also remember a certain time I met a secondary student sitting on his laps. This current event now translated that very sexcapade to me. I was no longer surprised why majority of the female students were headstrong and didn't mind wanting an affair with a teacher.

This single experience was OMG.
