So what is going to be the parameter to measure the severity of the cases? Another question the LASG should ask itself is, does any case of COVID19, severe or not, pose any threat to the other citizens who aren’t yet victims of the virus? |

Amotolongbo:Someone has predicted that gradually you will see that the tension around this Pandemic will fade out gradually and one day again (as usual), the government will give us another problem to tackle which will distract our mind from COVID-19.... And that's how it will be totally forgotten and everyone will go about his daily business 1 Like |

What this implies is that the health sector is gradually being overwhelmed. 1 Like |

ikorodureporta: It''s not only about space. there are other overwhelming logistics and costs. do you know what it costs to feed over 2000 people, 3 times a day? Yet the number increases. 1 Like |

fyneguy:So the LASG will have to wait till then before they attend to the case? I think the best thing now for the LASG to do is to find a large expanse of land to isolate the COVID19 corpse. It seems like that is where they are heading to. |

Amotolongbo: What an irritant! They won't admit them .Is that the same thing as not attending to them? |

Maybe that is the best approach for NCDC since the people they admit with their best intensions end up coming out to rubbish their gestures and start snapping the drugs, food and claiming they only had malaria and not Covid-19. At least if they attend to only serious cases desperately trying to cling to live, there will be too occupied with living to be involved in conspiracy theories and those calling the whole thing a scam will allow us rest while the number of people in the centers will be reduced 2 Likes |

9jatriot:Covid 19 is a self limiting condition in most cases. That could be achieved at home if Nigerians behave themselves, many won't. The only thing to be gained by isolation is limiting the spread to others, the purpose is not treatment People need hospitalization when they have very high fever and or difficulty breathing or a severe immune reaction Though people may be given chloroquine because it may shorten the illness in a few cases and many Nigerians have the malaria parasite. In an isolation centre even if you go in without malaria there is a theoretical risk of catching it there so malaria treatment makes sense for many reasons but it is no cure for covid19 |

All these drama are happening as a result of fear, I guess if any ailments that can be cured by our conventional medicines, they would start calling ncdc. I think it is high time Federal government and ncdc swallow their pride and come to Kogi State to know why they are still coronavirus free. I think Governor Yahaya Bello will be ready to tell them |

Yes, you are very correct, but the problem is, those admitted are making a mockery of the work of NCDC and negatively impacting on the efforts of the medical personnel. Remember that Susan Coker and Dokpesi saying they were not effected by the virus and insinuating that they only had fever, imagine you are a first line responder who has seen the worse cases and the mild cases, can this kind of statements not be depressing to learn in spite of your efforts. omonnakoda: |
Re: Lagos To Admit Only Severe Cases At Isolation Centres by Acidosis(m): 8:42am On May 21, 2020 |
That's how it is done in the UK, South Korea, US, etc. You have no business sleeping and dancing in the isolation ward. If your case is not severe, sit at home/self-isolate. Only issue is Nigerians are too stubborn and lawless. An infected person will still find his or her way out of the house unprotected (with no nose mask) in the name of hustle. No amount of Western methodology can work in a highly corrupt nation with majority of its citizens wallowing and embracing illiteracy day in day out. The new recommendation from the Lagos state govt. has long been predicted and, like any other approach, it will FAIL. |
Re: Lagos To Admit Only Severe Cases At Isolation Centres by omonnakoda: 8:45am On May 21, 2020 |
9jatriot:Some not all. Some have been quite positive in their remarks The NCDC is failing in its communication strategy. It needs to communicate with people on their level and engage local community influencers |
Re: Lagos To Admit Only Severe Cases At Isolation Centres by omonnakoda: 8:59am On May 21, 2020 |
Acidosis:You are right but in those places there is electricity and adequate housing. Yes Nigerians are largely illiterate but we are a poor country so it is quite complex Thousands of people in Lagos sleep in the corridor of very crowded dwellings. They are the last to arrive at night and first to leave in the morning with a ratio in excess of 20 to 1 per toilet. With not a single tap in the dwelling. People have to walk some distance to fetch water. Those are not ideal situations to isolate. In London you can stay in your house with constant electricity and online shopping watching Netflix, Government benefits are paid directly into your account In Nigeria no work no chop on a daily basis Our reality is very harsh |

Amotolongbo:The highlighted is a very bright question that shows there are still some people that also think and analyze issues to arrive at a logical, sensible plan. Though people may find it difficult to believe and scary to hear,I for one have long believed that there are several cases out there in the community, work places/ business areas that have contracted the disease, are not aware and going about their activities. They then ultimately recover as their bodies build up antibodies,as is common with many viral infections. The challenge is we here finding a way to limit that spread that is inevitable,so that the people with underlying health challenges, that are vulnerable to the virus deadly fang, are reduced. Another issue that leaders down here don't want to think about, until of course the developed world thinks it out and we do follow follow as usual is even d though dangerous thought that even the spread itself for those unaware they have it has been building immunities to the virus in people and communities, like a natural vaccine. It's a controversial idea, but one that deserves some scientific study,if only we are a truly scientific study kind of society.Unfortunately we are not. |
