The Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, on Wednesday, commissioned an isolation centre with 160 beds in Osogbo as part of efforts to curb the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Mr Oyetola said that a group, the Coalition Against COVID-19 (Ca-COVID), donated equipment, consumables and 100 beds. He said the state government added 60 beds for the facility, now called Mercyland.

He said it would serve as an addition to the government’s other initiatives in containing the spread of the virus.

Mr Oyetola said his government had renovated and equipped three other isolation centres which include, 130-bed facility in Ejigbo; 12-bed capacity in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, a 20-bed isolation centre and 8-bed Intensive Care Unit at State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, making 342-isolation beds and eight ICU-bed facilities in the state.

“We are adopting a holistic approach to winning the pandemic, including working with the National Centre for Disease Control and the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

“We have dedicated personnel doing contact tracing, testing of contacts, isolation and care of patients for quality treatment. We have extensive publicity and sensitisation programmes in place to educate and update our citizens regularly on how to stop COVID-19 in its tracks.

“There has also been the provision of palliative for citizens, the introduction of lockdown and curfew as appropriate to ensure effective containment of the virus without hurting our economy and livelihoods.”

He also appreciated the coalition for its support and urged residents to abide by the laid down health rules to curb the pandemic.

As of May 20, Osun had recorded 42 cases of the ailment.

in other news- last 2 weeks i wokeup feeling weak, slight headache n bitter taste bt my temperature was normal n linked that bitter taste to symptoms of malaria or typhoid n walked down to a nearby pharmacy to get drugs bt what happened really scared me, starting from how scared the pharmacist guy was behaving to the many questions abt if i gat high temperature n sore throat for d past weeks n the location or venues of places dt av visited...i told him m always at home n i tink d symptoms are malaria bcoz av experienced same other times n just some malaria pills wud mk me fine bt he didnt look convinced..he asked me to drop my number incase of emergency n he wud placed calls n i declined n he sold d drugs for me n asked me to check bk after 3days if d drugs works or not bt was really shocked me was wen i was abt leaving n abt crossing d road, i jus looked bk n saw him making a call wit dt "confused face" n I jus went bk home wut fear n took my drugs n prayed n stayed indoor all tru dt week even if i was fine n alright d next day...just yesterday i saw an unknown number called n i picked n it was d pharmacist guy n he said he got my number from a gal in my street n was told dt m fine n called to check up on me since he avnt seen me around n i told him dt m fine n alright n av been indoors since because am scared dt the covid team from ncdc would block n throw me in thier pickup n take to isolation center as a new case that am avin symthomps of the virus after i saw him making a call n mayb reporting me to them...he jus burst laff n said he actually called them n was jus following directives bcoz dts d order given to them......i jus weak n tire 4 dis country

;good if only they will use this opportunity to upgrade our health facilities... because u see in this corona time no body is going anywhere to receive adequate healthcare outside the country, so u all will use the same health care system the political class have provided..
