Abia Tricylce Riders Go On Rampage, Allege TIMAAS Extortion (VIDEO)

Just when the Abia State task force are revving up its operations in a renewed COVID-19 compulsory order of wearing facemask, some tricycle riders on thursday went on a rampage in Isigate,Umuahia in a fracas with Indiscipline Management Agency, Abia State (TIMAAS) .
For over 4hour, the Isigate which is the commercial hub in Umuahia was thrown into chaos as the rampaging tricycle riders protested against alleged extortion by TIMAAS.

While the melee lasted, the Tricycle riders formed a barricade between the post office road leading to Isigate, preventing other road users from accessing the route.

Before they were dispersed by police, the riders lamented series of extortion experienced in the hands of the TIMAAS. A tricycle rider who spoke with Ebonyi Tv said he had been arrested twice in the space of a week and on each occasion, he has had to bail himself and his tricycle with over N60,000.
"Each time we carry passengers, we do ask them to show us their facemask and probably wear them, but if eventually they pull it off while we are still driving without our notice, TIMAAS officials who stop us will demand for a bribe as high as N60,000, if we refuse, they will seize our tricycle. They are frustrating us, were do they expect us to get such amount of money from? Since the government gave an order that we should only operate from 8am to 4pm life have being very difficult for us. This extortion is too much and we need urgent intervention from the government". He said.
Ebonyi Tv gathered that the General Manager of TIMAAS Mr Ikeokwu Bright Chinedu who arrived at the scene of the crisis with his Murano vehicle with the plate number kuj-548SB nearly escaped death as his vehicle tires were flattened together with their official shuttle bus.
