COVID-19 inter-state movement ban: Gov. Ugwuanyi turns back over 100 offending vehicles entering Enugu from Ebonyi State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, this evening, paid an unscheduled visit to Enugu-Ebonyi boundary to monitor compliance with the ban on inter-state transportation aimed at containing the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). The governor who met over 150 vehicles queued at the Enugu axis of the boundary, attempting to enter the state, painstakingly trekked a long distance interrogating the drivers, one by one, to ascertain their eligibility for entering the state. Consequently, over 100 vehicles that were not on essential duties were identified and turned back to Ebonyi State where they were coming from. While on the enforcement exercise, Gov. Ugwuanyi met with the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, who was on transit, and had a brief discussion with him. Enugu State is in the hands of God!## 3 Likes

As I am typing this now, those 100 vehicles are already in Enugu It's no news that the ban on Interstate movement is just for the media. People are moving from one state to another You cannot have a corrupt Police, Army and all those personnel and expect them to enforce any law Just show them the money. That's all 276 Likes 13 Shares |

This is very commendable. El Rufai also did this. Wish they could be this proactive in handling the state’s progress itself.. 1 Like 2 Shares |

We all know this inter-state travel ban is a hoax. Well, even if it is not, we actually know it only exists in the books and just to scare people from contracting and spreading the virus. We know those who for one thing or the other are stuck in a particular place are still there, probably, because of the fear of the unknown like contracting COVID-19 or because of the hike in transport fare now. Today, a friend of mine just told me his Wife travelled from Abia to Imo state with little or no worries on the way (no taskforce [fed or state] harassment at all). Mr. Governor, other boarders which you were unable to visit today, did they also turn back 100 vehicles? or you think others didn't have vehicles to turn back? 5 Likes 1 Share |

I can imagine the conversation the governor had with his aides as they planned the unscheduled visit to the state border. "When we get there, you Mr Photographer would take pictures of me. My critics call me Mrs Ugwuanyi, so you'll do your best to make my pics masculine." "ADC, signal me when I turn back 100 vehicles. I can't do more than that. If they like, they should call me Mrs Ugwuanyi. I no get strength. I can't comman kee myself." And so they carried out the unscheduled visit. Lo and behold, there were 150 vehicles. How convenient! Then the deputy governor of Ebonyi State using a convoy of not less than 5 vehicles, maybe 10 passes. All the members of his convoy are top notch medical doctors, all essential staff. "Let them pass", And they start turning others back. After all, they aren't Deputy Governors. As soon as they count 100 vehicles turned back, the unscheduled plan has been fully implemented and it is time for the governor to go home. As a pat on the back for their hardwork, I wonder how much the aides got in their alerts. The media guy rushes to Nairaland and posts it. 100 vehicles turned back by Ugwuanyi today. And then, we Nairalanders get so happy and begin frying beans. And for a few hours, all is right with the world. SMH 19 Likes |

Ugwuanyi is very dull and unproductive. Our roads are still in a very bad condition, Too many useless political appointments, we have Hundreds of PA,s SSA,s TA,s EA,s with no portfolio just appointed to be His attack dogs and praise singers.. nothing more, jobless youths are so many in enugu state. No viable industries created, primary school teachers are not been paid minimum wage till now, both our street lights and beautiful bus stops constructed by Sullivan are gradually disappearing. I will simply describe him as an analouge governor. He should go for a 3 months leadership course in Ebonyi State. 16 Likes 1 Share |
