Why not just TRUE FEDERALISM?

Well there are many ways to skin a cat. Now that the Feds have fired the first shots I expect the States to reply with a press for more autonomy from the Federal government starting with what troubles them most. I expect the so called Exclusive List to come under attack. What is good for tne goose must also be good for the gander.

Good idea from Buhari, but implemented wrongly.

Legally the government cannot defend it, he should have gone through a constitutional amendment or the national assembly.

You sure? Because the local government finance is still controlled by the state governor.

You are right.... but, it would go all the way to the Supreme Court, which can take a few years. The status quo will be maintained (meaning the executive order will be in force) while the case works it's way up the Supreme Court.

You are wrong. The case will be Attorney General of the Federation V. AG States. It will go straight to the Supreme Court and they will uphold the decision

Governors want to take FG to court to contest a order that favours the same judiciary that will preside over the case.

Lmao

Very funny how most young people in Nigeria can't comprehend what they read. The amendment of constitution has been done by the 8th Senate and signed by buhari making it a law. The executive order brings it to operation, Olodo everywhere

it takes one high court judge to suspend executive order or throw it out

Are you serious?

ordinary high court judge can suspend or set it aside

Lol. Then by all means, let the governors go ahead and challenge it.

All PPDP and APC governors are the same. They don't like local government, judiciary and legislative autonomy. This could be one of Buhari legacies. Thank President Buhari

State Governors always see themselves as Supreme leaders who posses power as much as the president. They want to have control over everything including the judicial system.

Well, the real supreme leader, with the power vested on him according to the constitution, has ordered that the judiciary will no longer be a puppet arm.

oh, I thought as much. Party of con men, rogues, thieves!!

Did you just come across the three words- conmen, rogues and thieves without fully understanding their meaning

It is already a law. See Sections 121, 123 & 161 of the CFRN ( as amended).

The bill is simply a directive implementing the laws. This is a win for the Judiciary as the overbearing influence of the respective State Governors are reduced to further to a minimum.

Next, should be on the recommendation of appointment. The governors needs to shed some of that powers.

There can be no true independent Judiciary, if the governor still has to recommend appointment. He is bound to appoint those he is sure of their loyalty.

The C.J is safe to an extent. So it is a win. No more financial squeeze.

The state assembly is finally free. No more blind loyalty. The speaker can not speak freely to an extent.

This is good news for the masses. Atleast some courts will now wear good looks. Unlike before. grin

I'm not a PMB fan but I will really commend him on this one. The 8th assembly were the best assembly the nation has ever come across. They did great things and if buhari had consented to those bills then, we'll be heading to a greater place. I still respect BUKOLA SARAKI and YAKUBU DOGARA for what they did.

Go through the NA for what again? The constitution clearly states that each arm of government is independent of the other. Now that the presidency is bringing that back into effect, I see no need to go through the NA. It is already a law in the constitution, the president just took advantage of the grammar.

grin State Police and Resource control loading. Either way, it for the good of the masses. The Federal govt needs to empower the state to look inward. Non- viable States like Osun and Zamfara will be rich over night and illegal mining and the attendant militancy will die a natural death.

F.G cannot be everywhere na. They will now receive royalty as it ought to be.

Operation let the states develop themselves with what they have legally and pay royalties. Competition among the state will increase tremendously and our resources will be better managed while creating jobs.

I Love PMB

The governors don't want that part of the construction amended. I remember the last constitution amendment efforts that ended in futility.

So Buhari has to take the shorter route because we can't keep waiting for the governors. The era of PDP rascality is gone in Nigeria.

Buhari is laying the foundation for a Nigeria of our dreams. It's not easy but he is trying.
