Why should we pray for the peace of Jerusalem?

God tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in Psalm 122:6-9: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.’ For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’ For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity.” From this passage, we see that praying for peace and good to come to God’s holy city benefits those who pray. God promised blessings on those who bless Israel and curses on those who curse her (Genesis 12:3), and since Jerusalem is depicted as the center of Jewish life, it follows that those who pray for her peace and security will be granted peace themselves.

Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is most appropriate for a city whose name literally means “peaceful” and which is the residence of the God of peace. The phrase “peace be upon Israel” is found also at the end of Psalm 125:5 and 128:6, indicating that it was a common farewell blessing. Further, Jerusalem will be the scene of Christ’s return (Acts 1:11; Zechariah 14:4), and at that time He will establish permanent peace with its walls. All Christians should be eagerly awaiting His return and praying for the time when the Prince of Peace will reign in Jerusalem.

Jesus also said that we should be peacemakers, which would include praying for peace. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9). And we are commanded to do our best to live at peace with others. “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men” (Romans 12:18). So, God wants us to seek peace among all people, and that would include praying for peace in Jerusalem, especially because of its special place in His heart.

God bless you all.

Jerusalem (Mount Zion) supposed to be the center of pure worship on planet earth! Psalms 110:2; Isaiah 2:3
The inhabitants supposed to be the people every nation on planet earth will be looking at to receive blessings from God! Zechariah 8:23
But 99% of it's inhabitants were stiff-necked and faithless {Luke 9:40} so after they have killed many of God's prophets and now planning to kill God's son {Luke 20:1-26} this was why Jesus cursed Jerusalem and her inhabitants! Matthew 23:37-38

God's word will never go unfulfilled {Luke 16:17} so how will all what God promised about Jerusalem be fulfilled after all these? That's why Jesus promised his closest confidants that instead of relying on earthly Jerusalem he will go and prepare a place for them to stay in heaven as his corulers {John 14:1-4} it's from there they will rule over the entire inhabited earth {Revelations 14:1, 6; 20:6} so instead of looking forward to the earthly Jerusalem that's been profaned by this faithless Jewish nation, it's those Born Again Christians Jesus is taking to heaven that will be revered now, that's why they're called the New Jerusalem {Revelations 3:12 compare to Hebrew 12:22-23}

So how do you pray for Jerusalem today?

Remember that the first Jerusalem was IDENTIFIED that's why people from many nations do go there for worship back then before Jesus declared that pure worship will no more be of that nature {John 4:19-26} to worship God acceptably now we must worship in SPIRIT and TRUTH, that's why Jesus gave an illustration about how important it is for people to IDENTIFY his brothers (the new Jerusalem)! Matthew 25:31-46

Today the New Jerusalem have their remnant on this planet and over 8,700,000 are zealously working with them to gather the remaining citizens of God's Kingdom in this end time.
All those who are able to RECOGNIZE them are echoing the word of Zechariah saying "we will go with you people because we have heard that God is with you people" Zechariah 8:23

According to what God's holy spirit inspired Apostle Paul to write, members of the new Jerusalem doesn't necessarily mean a natural Jew but those having faith like our father Abraham! Romans 2:28-29

You must IDENTIFY them today because billions are cursing them despite all their fine works, these faithless people are doing so because Jesus' brothers have separated their subjects from the rest of Satan's world. We are praying for them because God is using them to bless us in this endtime! smiley

God bless you!

God didn't tell us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in that verse. David was talking to his people there in his psalm lipsrsealed The house of the Lord mentioned there is no more. So what are you praying for?

BullShit! Jesus did not send you! Wetin concern you with Jerusalem when you be gentile? Did Jesus tell you that if you pray for Jerusalem, him go let you into His Kingdom? The work wey Jesus send you, you don finish am wey you dey turn face to pray for Jerusalem wey God don destroy at least twice. undecided undecided undecided

Let me let you into a secret, forget what your pastors and preachers have told you. God will never give you what belongs to His people, Israel. So you better focus on that which is yours, your inheritance through Christ, with all your heart, mind, body and soul. Or you will have nothing in the end!

Ignorance! So God needed to communicate private matter to his people via His holy book addressed to humanity.
