President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday spurned allegations that his children were currently back in school after holiday in utter violation of the directive made by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that primary and secondary schools in the country should remain closed.

According to the president, it became necessary to correct reports in the media on the issue that his children were in school, just as he stated that his children “have not resumed school this year in compliance with the Federal Ministry of Education’s directive, adding that this fact can be easily verified.”
A statement by his Special Adviser, Media & Publicity, Mr. Ima Niboro further stated that, “President Jonathan is fully conscious of his duty and obligation to give exemplary leadership to the nation and he will always live up to this great responsibility”.
The Federal Ministry of Education, LEADERSHIP recalled, had in a public announcement in some national newspapers, informed the public about the extension of the resumption date for all public and private schools for the second term of the 2010/2011 academic session to February 4.
The announcement signed by G.Y Bello, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqquayat Ahmed-Rufa’i , had stated that the extension became imperative because of the INEC’S plan to use public institutions including primary and secondary schools, as Registration Centres for the on-going voter registration exercise scheduled to hold between January 15 and 29, this year.
