This time is certainly not the best for the northern part of Nigeria. This is because, the northern states are battling their age long Almajirai system, which seperates children from their biological parents, where they are kept in the custody of religious teacher,(also known as Mallams) thereby creating an army of children abandoned to fend for themselves before they even mature.

This system breeds all manner of social vices as these children are not duly equiped with requisite skills to fend for themselves in the larger society. This makes them embrace all manners of criminalities just to feed and survive.

That was the reason northern governors recently met and agreed, to abolish the system, which they believe hasn't helped them, but rather has created problems, save using them as thugs and child voters during elections.

The practice however on the other hand, seemingly absolves parents of responsibility to take care of their children, as they go about producing more children, and the poverty cycle continues.

Religious beliefs as well contributes in the practice of marrying many wives by northern men, which makes them have many children as against their counterparts from the South.

So, it is totally not surprising that a man would marry four wives in the north as that seem to be the standard norm, however, a man way above 70 years of age, adding a fifth one seem an over bar, especially as it has neither a religious nor a social backing.

Now the intrigue.

What actually are the motivations that draw young ladies to old men?
