I don't know about any of you, but I am highly annoyed with the attitudes of some of our Nigerian men. I said some, so don't kill me. I just returned from Nigeria a couple weeks back. This wahala has been going on since I was young and na the same wahala wey I experience during my trip. "I want to make your daughter my wife", they sometimes say to my parents. The number of marriage proposals I have received in the last six months alone is innumerable. The sad part is that I know the names of less than 10 of them. What happened to asking for friendship? Or introducing one's self? I'm sure our men have names lol, but we, or maybe just I, hardly get to know them because most of them can't exercise patience and get to know a girl or woman before laying himself out there. I find it demoralising not only to me, but to them as well. There's only so much I can take before I start snapping at them. They literally jump into water without testing whether or not it's hot. For yankee, there's a school song. In it, one phrase is "First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage." Why some want to jump straight into marriage is beyond me ohh. Or maybe I talk and/or think to much? |

For some people the M word is their way of saying I like you can I get to know you? They believe it shows they will be committed to a serious relationship with the lady. They also feel a sense of possesion ie they would want to be the only person in the lady in questions life worth her attention just like a husband. Dear OP just look beyond the words and see them for who they are. |

otokx: Yeah, marriage is no longer a sacred union in my opinion. Lord_Reed: Marriage is "can I get to know you"? lol. Good point with the rest though. It's very difficult to look beyond such a word. Before they even use the word I'm not even interested as I know they'll mention it very soon, and they always do. I find it selfish anyway. They want to marry. Good for them. And me? They don't even know if the feelings are mutual, or if I even have any lol. |
