The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation made a $1.6 billion commitment to Gavi over the next 5 years. Their aim is to deliver life-saving vaccines to the poorest countries.

Gavi, the vaccine alliance, is an international organization created in 2000 to ensure the distribution of vaccines to the poorest countries.

This pledge made would ensure that poor people will have access to the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available.

The commitment was announced at the Global Vaccine Summit 2020, hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom.

The summit was aimed at raising funds for Gavi’s efforts to immunize children amid the coronavirus crisis. At the end of the meeting, $8.8 billion was raised from world leaders and companies.
