Kilode?!: There's more where that came from. I am inspired! Did you see where MLK was referencing all these historical events mixed in with correct analysis of bilblical stories? The value of a great Morehouse education on display there. Plus a life dedicated to righting societal wrongs. How many of the tv-church prosperity-preaching "men of god" can talk like that nowadays? Of course, THEY went to the university of "show me the money!" Kilode?!: heeheehee. I held back o jere. Didn't want to restart the ajebo-this-and-that finger-pointing. Tunde Nightingale was a fave of my granma's too. That's why I love him. My most glaring memory of Nightingale's is of him and his band of about half-dozen playing live in our living room. All in row, sitting down, with Mr. Tunde in the center. It was obviously later in his life, cos he looked nothing like that picture in my post, other than that he was dapper - being nicely dressed in (if I remember correctly) a suit or dashiki, and I remember a balding head and a shiny face. Just him and his blessing of a voice. That is true talent, I tell ya. Sounded better live than on his album. Great memories, man. Kilode?!: naijababe: What about this question: Isn't he did the one who did a song that goes: naijababe:I don't even KNOW you anymore. 'Twas fun while it lasted sha. |

Were you always this bad and I just didn't notice? Anyway, I bet your're proud of yourself - you've corrupted a previously inanimate PhysicsDUD to your prurient testerone-infused style of posting. P.S.: When I start ignoring you and naijababe, you can both go start your own thread/blog. And take your problem child(ren) with ya. |

How many of the tv-church prosperity-preaching "men of god" can talk like that nowadays? Of course, THEY went to the university of "show me the money!" Don't get me started on Nigerian pastors, especially their hypocritical silence during this election campaign season. ~rant begins~ Nigerian Preachers are so quick to lionize and praise American preachers like Kenneth Copleland, John Hagee, Hagin, Pat Robertson and co -The Militant arm of the "Conservative" Republican Party- they are their role models, but recommending their books and hiring them to speak in churches and conventions all over Nigeria is where it stops for my Naija pastors. Nigerian Preachers can't bring themselves to take sides in politics and speak specifically about issues and candidates, even if it means saving their congregants from pain, oppression and suffering. but it's ok to tithe them hard! SMH ~rant stops~ |

Kilode?!: Could it be because there is really nothing to talk about? Pat Robertson and the other preachers you mentioned are hard-core conservatives. Being a conservative is not a life-style, it is an Idea, a way of thinking, and a culture in by itself. So coming out to speak for a cause they believe in shouldnt be that hard for them. On the other hand, in Nigeria, Politics and issues arent based on ideas. What is there for Adeboye to criticize about PDP? How is OGD different from Tinubu, OBJ and Akande, Ribadu and Buhari and Shekarau and GEJ ( The constitution for all the parties was written by the same person) So your rant on Nigerian preachers is really baseless I think. And Nigeria is really a fragile country compared to the US, if Adeboye were to come out against Buhari, wouldnt he be accused of bigotry? Looking at the tenuous political climate that we found ourselves, it is best that, for the interest of peace, the so called preachers remain neutral as much as possible, else they'd be accused of something much more damning that bigotry. After all, the ordinary iya alata, iya olobi, Naijababe, DK, baba onigedu and baba eleran, who form the bulk of our electorates are neither republicans nor GOP'ers. |

Not sure about their neutrality, especially when u consider the fact that Adeboye praying for GEJ is considered an endorsement by some already and it's not their neutrality that worries me but their deafening silence! Don't know if you ever heard any of Alhaji Muhydeen's lectures, he's always been critical of the government of the day. |

naijababe: To me, being neutral is not supporting a particular party. And keeping quiet is being neutral in a way. Atleast, no one knows who Oyedepo or Oyakhilome supports. They are for no one; yet, for all of them. I like it that way. Lets separate the Church, albeit a money grubbing one in our case, from the state. especially when u consider the fact that Adeboye praying for GEJ is considered an endorsement by some already and it's not their neutrality that worries me but their deafening silence! Only a crazy person would interpret it as such. The public outcry against Adeboye, someone I despise, after that incident was just unnecessary. He did nothing wrong IMO Don't know if you ever heard any of Alhaji Muhydeen's lectures, he's always been critical of the government of the day. His name isnt registering. I think in Nigeria because of our lack of in-depth understanding of the democracy we poorly copied from the Americans ( who did a better job 'downloading' it from the Greeks), anyone coming out to criticize will eventually end up criticizing every government because each successive government, doesnt matter if it was ACN, PDP, CPC, PPN, KKK or what have you, would almost always turn out the same way. One of the reasons Gani Fawehinmi failed is his bid was because of his penchant for being a loud-mouth. No one wants a loud-mouth in government or as a spiritual advisor, loud mouths bring back bad memory of the father, uncle or close relative you resent who never fails to criticize every little thing you do. And to avoid being a flip-flopper like Bakare has become in recent times, not minding the business aspect of it, it is best for these 'high-flying' Men of Money to remain neutral, best espoused by keeping quiet. |

Only a crazy person would interpret it as such. The public outcry against Adeboye, someone I despise, after that incident was just unnecessary. He did nothing wrong IMO Okay, let me phrase it a different way, do you recall Adeboye's response a few years ago when quizzed on on Obj's failed third term attempt? the same Adeboye was found to have gotten import duty waivers from Obj's govt, now the godson of Obj goes to the same Adeboye for prayers. So tell me, do u still consider that inference crazy? One of the reasons Gani Fawehinmi failed is his bid was because of his penchant for being a loud-mouth. No one wants a loud-mouth in government or as a spiritual advisor, loud mouths bring back bad memory of the father, uncle or close relative you resent who never fails to criticize every little thing you do. Failed in his political bid or as a critic? |

fstranger3: There is an argument to be made about our lack of clearly defined political ideologies or even a coherent social ideology. I welcome that argument and I will agree with you on that. BUT we still have something, we have a situation; We have a country, we have living breathing human beings, as imperfect as they are, we have laws, as much as I disagree with them, we have Religions based on moral codes of right and wrong, we have moral ideals even within our imperfect state and culture. So, It should not be too difficult for an Adeboye, Kumuyi, Oyedepo, Imam Whatchamacallit to guide their flock and speak boldly against the oppressive acts of our politicians and political leaders. to keep quiet and maintain this peace of a grave yard is unacceptable, what peace? is America not peaceful? aren't their Religious leaders taking sides? What we have is the peace of an executioners room. I do not care about Tinubu, condemn him, do the same to Buhari, Obasanjo, Igbinedion, Ibori and Co. Do it across the parties, Speak out against the oppression and looting presided over by these people. The poor roads, poor healthcare, terrible education services and large scale insecurity endured by your congregants every day should move you to take a stand and be specific about it. I refuse to accept that their duty stops at the collection table, Nigerians are groaning and dying and all you can do is leave them to their fate and hope for the best? eff your rituals then! As a religious leader, You lose your right to preach morality to me if you cannot stand side by side with me against oppression and immoral rule. MLK did not hide behind the bible, neither did Archbishop Oscar Romero. Just like the Great Awakening provided a foundation for the Political reforms and revolution that swept across Europe and the colonies in the 16th century helping to give birth to America as we know it, I believe our self appointed custodian of faiths can help bring some change to Nigeria. I agree, we don't have a coherent set of ideologies, but we have a situation. let them speak to it. Warrior, I may not be a fan of their faith. But considering the influence they have over people's minds, I definitely despise their silence. It is an immoral silence. BTW, I saw your dig at DK and Naijababe |

Kilode?!: Funny, I recently met a pretty college student named Folawiyo. I think it's about time I give her a call. If she's one of those Folawiyos I bet she'd make a great wife for a nice Naija man (Kilode). I wish I had land FOR ME. Not to talk of land to give away to my NL peeps. My name's not Oyekan. Although, I've been to his palace. Saw him on his throne. With some man praising him and walking backwards. Apparently, you don't turn your back on the king. I just realized my life as a kid was ten times the life I have now. Daaaaammmmnnnnn! |
