No special well crafted introductory paragraph to see here. Lets just cut to why you are here.

Why You Need To Properly Set Up Your Instagram Profile

Your Instagram profile is your only chance of creating a first impression with your potential customer.

It’s the sales girl that welcomes your customers in.

Do a bad job at this and you would see your customers run away from you faster than Usain Bolt at the Olympics. (Overused metaphor, I know)

Your customers need to know right away,

Who you are
What you do
How you do it
For whom you do what you do
And the food you ate last night (Ok, just kidding)

I’ll show you how you can easily answer all these questions with your Instagram profile.

But first things first…,

THE NAME SECTION

The name section of your Instagram bio is the first most important thing when setting up your profile.

Any keyword you put in this section is searchable.

Keywords are words that describe ‘what you are about’ in simple terms.

When people search on Instagram for keywords relating to what you do, you could easily show up, depending on the keywords you use in this section.

The Instagram algorithm shows your page to people that are more interested in what you do.

WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not use your business name here, unless your business is already well known.

Avoid using your real name unless you are trying to build a personal brand. But even then, you should combine your personal name with what you do.

WHAT TO DO
Use words that describe what you do.

Put what you think your audience might be searching for.

Examples

1. If your business name is Caleb’s Fashion, but you are a fashion store. Then best to use ‘fashion store’ as a bio name.

2. Are you an expert in a field, then instead of using your name, use what you are an expert in, e.g Social Media Manager, Content Strategist, Sales/Marketing Expert, etc.

Don’t take my word for it, here is what Triciabiz did…,

Stay with me now, we still have some tricks to unlock…,

To the next thing;

NICHE STATEMENT
Your ‘niche’ is just the industry your business is in.

Do you sell clothes, then you are in the fashion niche. Do you sell food items, then you are in the food/restaurant niche.

See the marked section of the image below for an example.

Your niche statement is meant to communicate exactly who you help and how you help them.

It should also clearly express the result or satisfaction you can give and/or how you do what you do.

Expert entrepreneurs would call this your ‘Unique Value Proposition’.

Relax, It’s just a fancy word to show that not all entrepreneurs have common sense.

Be among the class of those that ‘have sense’ today and get yourself a clear, well-written niche statement.

A good niche statement should help you stand out from the crowd of competitors. It should be unique to just you and your business.

It should also be indirectly selling to your potential customers. Let them know what they stand to gain from buying from you or following you.

WHAT NOT TO DO
Don’t just put together a long string of words with unnecessary smileys.

e.g bags, shoes, makeups, etc or
closures, wigs, masquerade masks, etc.

Avoid hard-selling. Don’t use words like (please order from me, I take God beg you). By the way, Nigerians are more stubborn when you take God beg them.)

WHAT TO DO
Clearly say what you do.

e.g We sell high-quality fashion pieces to give you that classic look for any event.

Another example; Our wig collections are carefully selected from high-quality manufacturers to give you that facial beauty other wigs can’t.

Say how you can help. (Note that you don’t have to combine both 1&2)

e.g Take this example from Tricia Biz

The next thing we would be talking about is

AUTHORITY BUILDER STATEMENT
If after your niche statement, you still have space left, then you can add a fact about your business, or an authority statement.

An authority statement can be an achievement, an award you have received, problems you have solved, a milestone you have reached, orders you have sold, etc.

It should basically tell potential customers that you know what you are doing and you have done it before.

Example of an authority statement. See the circled section in the images below.

ADDING A CALL TO ACTION
If you don’t do anything in this guide, you need to do this.

A call to action is the action you want anybody that reaches your page to take.

Do you want them to download a free resource? Buy from you? etc. Then you need to lead them to make that specific action.

This leads us to one most important point.

(GET A WEBSITE!!!)
I don’t care how small you think your business is, if you are just starting or if you are yet to make any sales. You need a website.

Stop leading people directly to WhatsApp.

Thanks to Disha, you can now get a mini one-page website for almost free.

A website helps build your authority, shows you are a serious business person, and helps presell your products or services.

Seriously, you have no right to complain of low sales or no sales if you don’t have a website.

Have you not wondered that these experts you follow and learn from have a form of website and you don’t?

Get a website today, even if it’s a one-page mini-website.

Now to the last thing.

YOUR HIGHLIGHT COVERS
Your highlight covers add to the overall beauty of your page.

They also help organize your Instagram story posts in ways your potential client can easily relate to.

A well-designed highlight cover help stamps your brand on the mind of customers while making you look professional.

Organize your highlight into;

Reviews, testimonials, orders, etc.

So you made it to the end…,

Thank you for reading.
