Osteoarthritis—the most common form of arthritis—also called the Degenerative Joint Disease, caused by continuous degeneration of the cartilage surrounding the articular surfaces of bones.

Symptoms: Pain in the affected joint, joint stiffness especially after a period of inactivity, bone spurs, tenderness and inflammation or swelling.

Risk factors: Old age, obesity, previous joint injury, bone/tissue deformities caused by genetic issues, excessive stress on a joint. Occupational conditions at times.


Treatment: Physical activities (improve joint flexibility and straighten muscles), NSAIDs ( either as drugs or gels), surgical procedures in severe cases, joint replacement in more severe cases.

Prevention: Frequent exercise and body weight management.
