Do u know this distance between Lagos and Calabar, and the line will pass through all Niger Delta state b4 getting to Lagos.
Did u see the time it took them to build lagos to ibadan?
This govt cannot build lagos to Calabar in 3yrs. That's just the truth.

That’s your opinion. What is more important is for the government to start the project and pay for it fully just like Lagos-Ibadan and Ibadan-Kano.

This project would have made mad sense, if all the steels and beams were produced locally and not imported from the same China.

Atleast we have the raw material and the know how. The Chinese can take over the company on a PPP basis and produce those raw materials locally.

Just imagine the jobs that will be created along that value chain. Anyway. It's a good thing. If we can push goods inward at the cheaper rate, cost of living will drop.

We should also work on empowering the youths. But they turn serious problem.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the payment of $318m (about 123bn) as counterpart funding to the Chinese Government for the Ibadan-Kano standard gauge project.

The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi who disclosed this said work on the Ibadan-Kano segment of the Lagos-Kano line may commence by the end of August.

It would be handled by the China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC). Amaechi who spoke in a Democracy Day interview monitored on Channels Television on Friday night commended the Chinese Government which he said had been very helpful in funding the railway modernization projects of the Federal Government.

He however added that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the opening of an account where some of the profits being generated from the standard gauge train services would be secured for repayment to the Chinese government. Amaechi disclosed that the flagship Abuja-Kaduna train which started with 300 daily passengers now records over 4000 passengers.

He said when the service first started, the government was making a monthly loss of N46m but now generates between N109m to N110m monthly profit.

Amaechi added that by the time the Ibadan-Kano train service comes on stream with cargo operations added to the service, more profit would be generated to ease the repayment of the loan.

He said: “We must attribute our successes in the rail operation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

THIS SHOULD BE A BITTER LESSON TO EX-PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN.

Jonathan government could not complete the EAST -WEST ROAD IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION.

Now a Fulani man is SPENDING Niger delta money to give his people the best of infrastructure.

NORTH do not have sound EDUCATION but they know what is good for their people and their region.

SOUTHERNER CAN ACCUSE BUHARI OF being a sectional bigot who practice tribalism and ethnic politics but the old soldier do not care.

That is the job of the president. If he doesn’t approve, who will?

Infrastructure wise, Buhari is the best president since 1999. By 2023, Nigeria’s railway transportation would have been completely revitalized. Well done Mr. President.
Especially when that infrastructure connects to a northern state.

It's okay for him to take loan provided it's for good reason, if Abuja to Kaduna rail could generate #109m I imagine what will be the proceeds from Ibadan to Kano, food will be cheaper because of cut in operational expense and even safety.

thesicilian:
Tomorrow we'll hear that he's taking twice of that amount as loan from IMF or China.

Actually the rail is expected to pass through the sea to Calabar and not through states. But it's still impossible to complete it in 3 years though.
