No he is right.

The problem with Obaseki is not that he defected, but that he defected late. If he heads to PDP, would all the PDP candidates agree to step aside for him? Especialy as PDP has gone far with the process to choose a candidiate.

Even if he wins today under PDP, chances are it would come back to bite PDP edo state in the back later on.Because all those sidelined candidates from PDP are going to find ways of stabbing him in the back, or Obaseki makes some concessions that alienate his supporters in return for PDP ticket.

It's not as easy as it looks.

(It's better he heads to SDP or another small party, and takes his chances.)
