The website above is a UK website.

A friend (white Canadian) went to the UK for masters and worked as a nanny. This is not uncommon. The point is to not change the nanny life to what we do to house helps in Nigeria.

Don't become another example of immigrants who bring people from their countries to become, in the eyes of charities and the govt, slaves.

Like I said before, what you're offering is a good opportunity, especially if they can stay after studies. However, if you overdo it, if they are on call throughout the day, the amount they're supposed to be paid will quickly skyrocket. That 15,000 will begin to look like child's play.

Naira235:
I doubt if you know what's operating in UK at all?? Domestic workers are different from Care assistant and also different from Child minders. Care assistant is different from live-in-carer and nanny. Everyone is proud of their profession and no one , I repeat none of the above can work , save £15,000 for school fees within 9- 12 months , and sponsor themselves with both feeding, accommodation and living expenses.

The devil you know they say is better than the angel you don't know.

You've lived with you sis at the early stage of you life so you know what she can do and what she can't do (I mean her bad character). Believe me environment can change people. You sister is wayward but she can't get worst than that. She can only get better

However, you boss daughter might be a good girl for now as you said, but do you think you know her real personality?

Another thing, If anything happens to your boss daughter over there, what will you do as you said that you don't want to let your parents know.

If eventually you younger sis and your parents finds out that you are sponsoring MSC prog for a stranger, do you think your family will ever forgive you? Even if you are the bread winner.

Like I said b4 the devil you know is better than the angel you don't know.
Your sister will forever love you if you do this for her. I know what I'm saying.

Hi Everyone,
I have been paying high money for childcare here in UK and its giving me a second thought. My husband is a medical doctor and I work as a nurse for half days in a week, so we don't have to work all day and time to be financially okay as this is our first child and she is just 8 months old.

I can only afford to sponsor one person for MSc and the person has to be assisting me in childcare as a compensation.

I have a younger sister whom I am 6 years older than, she is a graduate but not currently working. She is a spoilt child been the last born and I am the first born. I found it very difficult to control her as an elder sister while in Nigeria. She is a graduate, and she is tired of Nigeria, she is also a burden on my parents as she has been living and feeding on them. Most times I send them money she spends 80% of it for herself and she is been treated as a pet been last child. I am afraid I won't be able to control her as my sister when she comes over.

I have another lady, she was the daughter of my boss where I was learning Tailoring in Nigeria. She and her mother were so respectful and caring. They are very poor and have no support anywhere so I am thinking of inviting her over for her MSc abroad and to also be taking care of my child for few days in return for her school fees.
Note : that is aside from their 20 hours work per week allowed on their student visa, so they can also work and have money.

The childcare is just few days in a week from 8am to 2pm. And I am hopeful it won't affect their studies.

Who is the right person to invite? Please I need your advice . Thanks all

Get someone else for your childcare.

This is MSc - you can not predetermine what their school time would be
How do you want to tell a postgrad student to sit and childmind from 8am - 2pm. They are adults and you can not enforce anything them. You cant even force them to stay in school
You will be SORELY dissappointed.

Get an aupair please and use the money you want to spend on studeis, air ticket and visa on paying for that

Your sister already has an entitlement mentality, she will never appreciate anything you give or to do. Someone that spent spend more than 80% of money meant for others on herself alone, will not only abandon your child, she will leave your house.
The other lady have more value to offer and will forever be grateful. Sometimes family is not everything, after all family members are not always our best friends.

No, I only met her all through my 3years training in her mom's shop like 8 years ago. The mother and her daughter still called or chat me up often to say hello to me, always asking about me during this pandemic, without asking or demanding for money or anything. My sister only call me whenever they are broke at home or my parents are sick.

Don't assume you know people like that. Especially when it comes to going abroad, working and schooling. At least you already know your younger sister. Have a conference call with her and your parents only. Tell her this is the only condition of her coming and you'd be sending people to watch her. If she doesn't change you'd pick someone else. On the mean time, why not send her to learn something like catering or fashion designing. Why leave her at home to be a liability to her old parents? If you are picking your madams child get a lawyer to draw up an agreement here. I hope she doesnt collect your husband from you. All these young girls are customers to Miwa, Omashola and Jaruma. Good luck.

They are all telling you to do what they themselves can't do. That's the situation with Nigerians

For me, if I can't invite both of them, then I will find someone in that country to do that job for me. But I'm never picking anybody over my own flesh and blood.

I cannot pick someone ahead of my sister simply because my sister is a "spoilt" child. This is not a government affair where people will say you're being nepotic, this is strictly a family affair and family members should be considered first.

No matter how "spoilt" your sister is, I don't think she'll abandon her niece whenever she needs her.

It's not as if your sister is a criminal or a loose girl. Her problem is common with most last borns due to too much pampering.
What you just need to do is to present your terms and conditions to her before she applies for visa.

If your sister finds out that you pick this lady over her, she'll never forgive you.

If you feel you want to help your former bosses' daughter for what her mum did for you, credit her account let her start something here.

Besides, that same girl can change once she steps into that country.

Our problem in this country is that we like telling others to do what we ourselves can't do.

Family first abeg.

As a last born I take serious exception to that statement. I was pampered and protected. I never even cooked untill I got into the University. My roommate taught me how to cook. My elder sisters washed my clothes and did everything for me (I had a lot of elder sister). And no, I wasn't allowed to sleep all day. I did other chores like cleaning, washing dishes E.t.c.

People blame last-born's for being spoilt, but it's not their fault they are spoilt. It's the way they were raised.

Last born or not, I could never get away with some selfish traits your mentioned about your sister. Your parents let her get away with too much. You need to set rules, boundaries for her. And if she doesn't follow them, let her know there will be consequences.

@bold:

What do you suggest in her circumstance?
Re: My Younger Sister Or My Boss Daughter ?? by bukatyne(f): 7:17am On Jun 28, 2020
Naira235:
Inviting her over is applying for student visa through MSc route which cost over £15,000 and I see no evidence of slavery there.

I don't need any house help, but just a childminder. I have been paying childminder here but thought it will be additional advantage to someone else inform of tuition fees instead of paying over £700 every month for childminder . The only agreement is to pay their school fees direct to the school account in exchange for the work.

Wait madam,

You want to use €15k visa (minus tuition, allowances, housing, feeding etc) to cure a €700/mth issue?

You will use the €15k to pay child minder for 21 months. You don't even have the assurance that the person you choose will even comply when they get there.

Hmmmmmmm.

Our last born was once a pain in the ass, she does nothing only to spend money even though she is a graduate and employed, my mum was calling us almost every time. She couldn't stay with one of my elder sister while our first daughter stopped her from running her shop after just 4 days. My older siblings decided to stop sending her money Las Las her eye clear na now she they try adjust self.

So invite who will give u peace of mind and appreciate u, I personally don't believe in that "blood is thicker than water" sydrome when that blood will give me HBP.

Who chooses a stranger over family? You've never been stabbed before. I'll rather be stabbed by a family member than a stranger. How will I feel when I see a stranger progressing whilst my own family suffers because she is 'spoilt?
My dear, this is deeper than her being spoilt, you have a personal grudge against your sister which you ain't saying here. Maybe she is prettier, got more complements, better grades etc.

I think that she needs to realize that both her sister and boss's daughter pose equal risk. There's no way of telling how things will go with either of them until they are actually there.

If it were me, I'll go with my sister. But I'll set strict rules and make her understand the days of pampering are over. If she misbehaves she's out on her own and I'll withdraw funding of her education.

Lol...not always o. On the contrary, my sisters like having me around because once I arrive, they sit and cross their legs while I take over everything.

For your topic, I guess you have made your decision. Your boss' daughter is the better option.

Sometimes we need to leave sentiments aside and decide according to what works best to avoid regrets. Because sometimes family have the entitlement mentality and end up messing things up.

if I were to be in your position, I will go for my boss daughter because by doing that, I'm not helping her alone, I'm helping her entire family indirectly.

As for my sister, there will always be another day.

thanks. That same question has been on my mind too. I don't know what will be my parents reaction if I ever mention to them that my boss daughter was invited. I am planning of doing it as a secret without informing my family, but again... I am scared of what might happen later on.
Please I will advise that you take out time to pray about this issue. After praying if you are not led to invite any of them please stay and manage yourself. Our GOD is not an author otf confusion. Good luck
