Gov. Abiodun Suspends Plans To Reopen Churches, Mosques Indefinitely In Ogun by News0003: 2:45am On Jun 20, 2020 |
Ogun State Governor, Mr Dapo Abiodun has on Friday suspended ongoing plans to reopens churches and mosques in the State, News9naija reports. Recall that the Ogun State government had earlier fixed June 19 for gradual reopening of religious and worship centers across the state. However, the Governor has rescind the government's earlier decision citing the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state as reason the government is making U-turn on its earlier decision. He said, “Consequently, we are confronted with two choices – yield to the demand of those who want the restrictions to be further relaxed or even completely removed, even if this is at variance with the dictates of incontrovertible data analysis and scientific opinion; or tow the path that preserves public health and safety, even if not so popular. “As a responsible administration, we choose life and the wellbeing of our citizens and are therefore constrained to take the painful but necessary decision to maintain the current regime of eased lockdown in the meantime. “We are consequently suspending our initially slated reopening of places of worship.” https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2020/06/20/gov-abiodun-suspends-plans-to-reopen-churches-mosques-indefinitely-in-ogun/

Government without vision. Other countries have given out guidelines for full blown economy to open. Nigeria is still perambulating without a decisive decision while we know that the case will keep increasing as long as we conduct more test |

All governments realizes that the religious institutions cannot abide by the protocols that have been set up to help manage social distancing and personal hygiene in a society that had never previously cared about personal hygiene. They were only being pressured by the religious groups into doing what was irrational over something that wasn't a necessity like markets, and for which an alternative had always been available like online services and private worship. By the mere irrationality that religion promotes, all it takes is a zealot preacher telling his congregation to have faith - a suicidal fate, and all safety protocols will be discarded, only to still be adhered to by those of "little faith". It is on record that a preacher already disclosed that it was an insult to God to use nose masks inside the church. A classic example of how fanaticism and arrogant irrationality becomes suicidal. In the end, even our selfish politicians grew a conscience and refused to allow the religious centres become an incubator of what could still grow to become more catastrophic. Let all that is primarily not a necessity and for which order and sanity cannot be guaranteed, remain closed, even if you it takes years to eventually open, seeing that worship was never stopped. 1 Like |
