The Economic and Financial Crime Commission(EFFC), on June 19, 2020, unveiled 400 suspected ghost workers in Kwara State.

According to the commission, it was reported at it Ilrorin zone office that Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT), Kwara State, Salihu Idris Toyin and the Permanent Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board(SUPEB), Bayo Audu Onimago, among others allegedly shared N31million earmarked for the payment of salaries of the ghost workers.

Other beneficiaries from the money include, Director of Finance, SUBEB, Ahmed Husain, Coordinator, NUJ, Kwara State, Tijani Idris and Controller of Finance, SUBEB, Omole John.

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT) told operatives of the EFFC of how the money was being shared he said, he paid a sum of N12 million into his own account and others.

He said the money was not supposed to come into the account but when he got the money he gave it to Officials of the SUBEB, he was given the sum of N3 million for free and they shared it among themselves.

Furthermore, Toyin said, he recieved a sum of N19 million, withdrew N4 million from it, and use N1.5 million for clearing and interlocking of the the SUBEB quarters, and keep the remaining N2.5 million.

He added that money for clearing and interlocking of the the SUBEB quarters, was not receipted.

Recall that EFCC announced and unveiled about 1000 ghost workers allegedly smuggled into the payroll of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Baord.

All the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation are concluded.
