Minimum Wage And The United Nations. by lawani: 5:09pm On Jun 21, 2020
An imposed minimum wage is a thing formalized economies have which informal ones do not have. The minimum wage is determined by the internal affairs ministry of a nation. It is arrived at by determining how much minimum a worker should be paid so that the worker can still live well after he or she pays income tax. Nations with statutory minimum wage are immigrant worker destinations because the vast majority of the economy is formal and attractive to immigrant workers. In Third World nations the majority of the economy is informal and minimum wage is not imposed on the private sector like in Nigeria. Third World nations leave wages to the market forces while first world nations regulate wages, they have minimum wage. The United Nations should sponsor an international treaty which will make a statutory national minimum wage a pre requisite for membership for nations. A national minimum wage which is imposed on all employers of labor will go a long way in reducing poverty levels and it will eventually even out the globe economically.
