Dear Nairalanders, This message was copied with Express permission from the writer Dr. A. Dedeke please read and be blessed; #Onfatherhood There are ever burgeoning terms for father nowadays ranging from mild to strongly derogatory; Baby Daddy, Birth father, Biological father, Putative father, Sperm donor, Surprise father, teenage father, adoptive father, cuckolded, DI dad, father-in-law, foster father, mother's partner, mother's husband, presumed father, social father, stepfather, absent father, second father, stay-at-home father, weekend/holiday father. I am amazed as well as sad at the same time. How can #fatherhood be so hard to define in this generation! All the above are terms describing who a father is, based on the diverse experiences of people but they are never the definition of who a father is! So you see, YOu are not a father just because you have a wife and gave birth to children. Who then is a father? A father is a founder, a prototype of something new, a leader, a trailblazer, a carer and nurturer of generations, as if they are his children. A man on whose shoulder many can lean and find succour; a pillar. A man with great vision and depth of thought who is godlike. In summary, a father is the man that takes you further. If you are an embodiment of this type of father, congratulate yourself. #HappyFather'sDay. DDK. Happy Father's Day |
