According to oxford advanced learner dictionary “development” is defined as an evolving process, a process of growth.
Development is also the process of improving the quality of humans life. The major factor in development is the mental factor. Development not focused on man is regarded as inadequate. Development is achieved through education which is the key to people’s ability to manage and induce change. such education will facilitate the kind of leaders who will in turn manage the forces of national development.
Development should not entail populism; Rather it should aim at getting on the job that people do. It is not all about consuming, it is all about producing. it is not about buying technology, but it created by the people themselves. in other word development entails:

⦁ The right kind of organization and skill.
There are three main aspects of development
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The need for economic development arises from the fact that productive resources are scarce, relative to the demand for them. Development in the case requires a strategy for planning which will pilot the economy to a given direction, assign specific priorities to be followed and mobilize the resources of a nation in a deliberate attempt to achieve development.
economic development, therefore, implies the positive improvement of economic indicators, per capita income, gross national product GNP as they affect the well being of the people.
economic development is also the ability of an economy to cope with the modernization of infrastructures, activities, and other aspects of the economy that makes life comfortable for man.
political development
political development refers to the rise of specialized political, executive, and bureaucratic agencies capable of getting collective and implementing them in the national and international environments.
social development
this refers to the role of infrastructure as an agent of development. infrastructure embraces facilities for water and power supply, country planning, tourism, and social welfare.

creating condition conducive to the growth of peoples self-esteem through the establishment of social, political and economic systems and institution which promote human dignity and respect
Increasing people’s freedom to choose by enlarging the range of there choice variables e.g increasing varieties of consumer goods and services. Freedom to choose the type of system under which the will be governed and the freedom to participate in the process of national development.
