As the race for Ondo State gubernatorial election intensifies, the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pitched tent with the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Ondo State Deputy Governor reportedly tendered his resignation letter at the APC secretariat in Apoi Ward 2, Ese Odo LGA, where he announced his defection.

Addressing the members of APC at the ward, Ajayi claimed that everybody is aware of his reason for leaving the ruling party.

Premium times reported yesterday that the Deputy Governor was restrained from going out of the Government House by the state Police Commissioner, Bolaji Salami, and members of his team.

Subsequently, the Deputy Governor has gone ahead to announce his defection to PDP and has picked up his membership card at the ward where he announced his defection.

Agboola Ajayi’s defection is the latest woe in the APC camp as the ruling party battles issues of internal discontent and supremacy battles across board.

Remember that Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State Governor had also recently switched the APC for PDP after being disqualified in the runup to the APC primary elections holding in the South-South State on Tuesday, the 22nd of June 2020.

Circumstances surrounding Obaseki’s disqualification and subsequent defection has also led to the party removing Adams Oshiomole from his position as the National Chairman of the party, a situation that has caused further rancour within the party.

With the resignation of Agboola Ajayi, the APC will be hoping that further damage is not done before the September elections where the party will fight to retain control of both states.
