Jose Mourinho has praised Tottenham striker Harry Kane after he netted in their 2-0 win over West Ham on Tuesday.

In stern response earlier in the week, Mourinho made a passionate defence of his attacking record as a manager after Paul Merson also claimed Harry Kane may never recapture his previous goal-scoring form under his tutelage.

Harry Kane, who had scored seven times in 11 games under Mourinho before a hamstring injury on New Year’s Day against Southampton, looked off the pace during Tottenham 1-1 stalemate with Manchester United.

English international, Kane netted late on against the Hammers to make it eight in 12 appearances under the Special One.

“I am happy for him,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “Again he worked a lot and I am happy for him being again better headlines and a better feeling for him.

He worked so hard in this period, in lockdown at home and to get into conditions to help the team, which he is doing. I am happy with lots of things, first of all the result and then the clean sheet.

“The team is more solid, the players have less doubts and the collective work is better and then we play against a team with a coach with a lot of experience who organises his team in a very difficult way for us.”
