A lot industry stakeholders in the sports sector have praised the move by the sports minister Sunday Dare to carry out a verification exercise on the occupants and identify illegal structures inside the National Stadium in Lagos.

A task force has been set up to this effect and will be lead by the sports ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Gabriel Aduda. The team commenced the exercise on Monday with the aim of ridding the place of unwanted occupants and structures.

The President, of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih, praised the minister for the giant stride, he said his efforts in renovating the sports arena is very timely.

Orbih said, “We are not a lawless nation and neither do we have a useless society. This is coming at the right time in order to regulate the system. The Task Force set up by the minister is a very good thing.

“This is a national monument and it is meant to be maintained for the good of the public. We should follow global standards. The setting up of the committee and the verification exercise is a product of vision, passion and commitment.”

George Ashiru, a former President, Nigerian Taekwondo Federation, also weighed in on the exercise, he said it was imperative for government to take necessary steps in maintaining the stadium, a facility which has been abandoned and in disrepair for almost two decades.

“It is useful to make that place as clean and nice as possible. If the stadium can generate income for the government, it’s good,” Ashiru stated.

Sell it please use the money for something else, I don't even trust these people. Rent it out for churches or for concerts how hard is that. Wembley makes a lot of money just for concerts.
