Liverpool finally wrapped up the Premier League title with seven games to spare on Thursday night - and the celebrations are set to continue for the remainder of the season.

Manchester City's defeat to Chelsea confirmed the Reds' long wait was over as they sealed their 19th league title and first since the 1989/90 season - before the advent of the Premier League.

Liverpool are 23 points clear of closest challengers City, whose reign as Premier League champions came to an end, with 28 wins, two draws and only one defeat from their 31 matches

And, ironically, the newly-crowned champions will return to action with a mouthwatering encounter against City next Thursday. Pep Guardiola's side are expected to give Jurgen Klopp's men a guard of honour, which is not compulsory but the tradition is usually honoured in England.

In fact, Liverpool's remaining seven opponents - which also includes Aston Villa, Brighton , Burnley , Arsenal , Chelsea and Newcastle - are all expected to offer the congratulatory guard of honour. However the Premier League still need to confirm the protocol, with the new rules since the season resumed seeing teams come out separately prior to kick off and maintain a form of social distancing. Meanwhile, Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson says ending the club's 30-year wait for a top-flight title is an "amazing feeling".
