The President has appointed Professor Steve Okodudu sociologist, Development sociologist, and Professor of political economy the Acting Vice Chancellor of University of Port Harcourt. His appointment takes effect from July 13, 2020.

This appointment ends months of speculations and heated political wrangling in the university. This appointment is for an acting capacity for six months. The university has been politically tensed which has given rise to heavy politicization of the institution.

Professor Steve Agochi Okodudu is a dedicated lecturer and principled academic. He is to replace Professor Ndowa Lale Sunday who was temporarily asked to step aside by the Minister of Education. Based on rumour, he was either sacked or unceremoniously requested to proceed on temporary and compulsory leave. A situation often given to non-performing Vice Chancellors and to give them safe landing.
