This is akin to asking a father to choose which among his sons he loves best. A paterfamilias worth his salt will not do that.
I will list 5 of my favorite authors of all times.

1. Lawrence Block
2. James Hardley Chase (Renee Brabazon)
3. Peter Cheyney
4. Chinua Achebe
5. Dan Brown

This list can alternate anyhow and I would not mind

Ps: James Hardly Chase wrote 153 books and I have read all of them!

MODIFIED: I am surprized no one has mentioned Agatha Christie!! The most published author on the face of the earth dead or alive

Can't say there's a favorite. But I love these writers, and in no particular order :

Dean Koontz
Sidney Sheldon
Nora Roberts.
H. P. Lovecraft
Mario Puzo
Patricia Cornwell
Stephen King, because he's like a legend
Agatha Christie because she's the queen of mysteries.
Dan Brown (smor love)
Clive Barker
Sandra Brown

Finally, y'all haven't seen the awesomeness of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child? Damn!

Michael Connelly, I'm not really a fan of reading novels but any Michael Connelly's book is worth it.

As a youngster, I read James Hadley Chase a lot.

I thought no other author could surpass him.

But now that I am an oldie, I can't even believe there was a time I was dying to read Hadley Chase!

I just can't find reading James Hadley Chase as fun no matter how much I try now.

The stories seems so predictable and so outdated.

If it is not Second Grade Detective Tom Lepski pursuing any of his numerous hunches, it will be Mark Girland and Malik trying to outsmart each other.

If it is not Herman Radnitz trying to pull off any of his numerous heists, it will be Maddox trying to catch one insurance thief.

If it is one one beautiful woman needing the help of one young and ambitious man to kill her rich husband, it will be one man carefully plotting on how to kill his ugly and old rich wife!

Damn!

If I want to read any good book these days, I will simply settle with either Sidney Sheldon or John Grisham.

For me these days, James Hadley Chase is Strictly for Cash Kids!!!

There is no book written on the face of the earth that you cannot get there (As long as the author is recognized internationally)
Type in the name of the book (must be spelt correctly) on the search bar in the website and the available E-format would come up.
Then you download.

I always prefer the E-pub format because I have an app called supreader installed on my phone where I read with ease.
Thanks bro

InventTech:
Chinua Achebe.

His works are prophetic in texture, ingenious in sequence.

Prophetic

Only A Man of the People had a prophesy and it was at the end of the novel. It seemed so hastily done that it made it seem like Achebe got wind of the coup plot and quickly wrapped up his story using it.

Aside that, none of his other works were prophetic.

Many writers have at least one book that was prophetic.

Who is your favourite author of all time? Foriegn or Local.

For me, Rene Raymond Brabazon a.k.a James Hadley Chase is my favorite author of ALL time!

He's the crowned KING of all thriller writers!

50 of his book have been made into films!
He's a legend. He's my mentor!

Keep the comments rolling in!

Mine is D. O. Fagunwa, the author of Ògbójú Ọdẹ nínú Igbó Irunmale and others.
His style is out of this world.
Assuming his works were made in English, he's not in the league of Williams Shakespeare!

Wrong.

It's like saying Fela's songs are outdated. There is what's known as classic/evergreen content.

JHC is one of such.

William Shakespeare and Professor Wole Soyinka are my best playwrights, Edgar Allan Poe is my best poet. I don't read novels much so I don't have a best novelist but The picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde and the Alchemist Coelho Paulo are my best novels. My worst Novels ever are The old man and the sea by Earnest Hemingway and No longer at ease by Chinua Achebe. These books traumatized me from reading novels again, I hate them Sooooo much.

What did you mean by traumatized?

African author... Chinua Achebe
Foreign author. George Orwell. I especially like his Snowball animal farm. " some animals are not equal. Some are more equal than the others." grin ah.. That year.

Shakespeare kind of English made his art works very complex to understand. Except for the conversation part between characters. One of his works about Duke orsino, Sebastine and Sebastian.... Can't remember the title of that drama.

And then Gods are not to blame by Olarotimi ....

Evergreen wetin?!

In this computer and digital age, apart of the fingerprint technology, all other method of solving crimes that James Hadley Chase elaborately tried to describe will not even count in our world today.

1. James Hadley Chase - I must have read at least 20 of his books. One of the books gave me a headache and nightmares smiley
2. Irving Wallace - I read the Plot. That's the longest novel I ever read. It was somewhere around 1000 pages. I'm still amazed at how the author masterfully connected 4 completely unrelated chapters. Beautifully crafted with an adult theme.
3. Erle Stanley Gardner - I believe I read more than 30 of the Perry Mason series. I almost chose a career in Law as a result.
4. Kole Omotosho - I just ordered another copy of A new dawn, a few weeks ago. I admire his style of narrating history via prose
5. Frederick Forsyth
6. Elechi Amadi
7. Agatha Christie - I'm pretty sure I read more than 30 Poirot Series.
