Pastor docked for claiming ownership of friend's car Saturday, 29 January 2011 A Pastor, Victor Akintimoye, has appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates Court for allegedly claiming ownership of a Honda Civic car entrusted to his care. Akintimoye (36) is facing a four-count charge of breach of peace, wilfully resisting arrest, forgery and illegal change of ownership. The prosecutor, Sgt. R. Williams, told the court that the car with registration No. CB 272 APP belonged to one Mr. Adesola Onafowora. Williams said that on Dec. 31, 2009, Akintimoye forged the signature of the complainant and changed the ownership of the said car by swearing an affidavit and obtaining a police report on it, adding that when the owner of the car, Onfowora, went for his car, the accused refused to release it. She said that rather than hand over the said car, the pastor went into hiding, and on Jan. 17 when a police officer visited his home at 5, Popoola Lawanson, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, he wilfully resisted arrest. Williams said that the accused caused a breach of public peace by locking up himself inside his apartment and telling the police officer to leave. The prosecutor said that the offences were punishable under Sections 249, 356 (2) 467 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State. However, Akintimoye pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate, Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case till Feb. 24, for further hearing. http://thenationallifeonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3972:pastor-docked-for-claiming-ownership-of-friends-car&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=18 |
