Truck beats traffic light, runs over tricycle, kills one in Anambra
Tragic struck in Onitsha on Sunday when a truck allegedly beat traffic and ran over a tricycle, killing one person in the process.

The incident occurred at the Zik roundabout on the Awka-Onitsha Expressway.

The Anambra State Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

He said the incident occurred around 3.55pm when a scanner truck with registration number LSR810XS ran over a tricycle with registration number AAH790UW at Zik Roundabout on the Onitsha-Awka expressway.

He said ,"The crash occurred when the driver of the scanner truck beat the Traffic Light and unfortunately ran over the tricycle. Three male adults where involved in the crash. One sustained some degree of injury, while one death was recorded.

"The injured victim was rushed to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha while the corpse of the dead was deposited at Boromeo Hospital Mortuary, by an FRSC rescue team from Onitsha Unit Command. The vehicles have been handed over to the Inland Town Police Station, for further investigation.

Anigbo said while the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Andrew Kumapayi had condoled with the family of the dead and wished the injured victim quick recovery, he charged motorists to always obey road safety rules and regulations.

Onitsha doesn't observe traffic light rules, i am guilty of that too...
